<span class="mycode_b" style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-weight: bold;">Dr Lee Weiling accuses PM Lee Hsien Loong of misleading her father into thinking Oxley house was gazetted

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">In her latest Facebook post posted on late Wednesday afternoon, Dr Lee Weiling charged that Late Lee Kuan Yew was misled by her brother, Lee Hsien Loong (LHL) into thinking that his 38 Oxley Road property had been gazetted by the Singapore government, causing him to change his will to bestow the house to LHL.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">According to Dr Lee, LKY was led by LHL to believe that Oxley Road had been “gazetted” by the government. She wrote, “This was the background to Loong’s insistence that Papa should change his will to give Oxley Road to Loong alone.”

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">She goes on to refer to an email on 6 Sept 2012, that is said to be written by LKY to his lawyer, Ms Kwa Kim Li of Lee & Lee, saying “Although it has been gazetted as a Heritage house it is still mine as owner.”

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">LKY is also said to have written in the same email, “But the house is still mine and I can in my will give Ling the right to stay on in the house.”

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Dr Lee claimed that LHL eventually persuaded LKY that since Oxley had been “gazetted”, it was futile to keep LKY’s direction to demolish Oxley in his will.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">In an earlier post by Mr Lee Hsien Yang in 2018, he said his late father wanted demolition “unwaveringly”, because he did not want his home made into a shrine. “His legacy is Singapore itself and not his old house”.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">He added that Mr Lee Kuan Yew was forced to consider options other than demolition, as “(PM Lee) insisted that the gazetting of 38, Oxley Road was ‘inevitable’.”

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">He cited an e-mail the late Mr Lee sent to his children on Oct 3, 2011, which said: “Loong as PM has indicated that he will declare it a heritage site”.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">On the renovation plans submitted to the URA in 2012, Mr Lee Hsien Yang wrote: “Our father reluctantly went along only because he believed the government already intended to thwart his hopes.”

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">However, according to Dr Lee, LKY began to doubt the truth that Oxley had been “gazetted” in late 2013.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">She claims that LKY discussed with Ms Kwa the possibility of a “degazetting” of 38 Oxley Road after he died.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">LKY is said to have been concerned that the government would reverse course after his death so as to benefit LHL, who made Ms Kwa recap what was in his Will in force at the time (dated 2 Nov 2012).

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">In his statutory declaration to a Ministerial Committee formed in 2017, LHL questioned the role Mrs Lee Suet Fern, Mr Lee Hsien Yang’s lawyer wife, played in the preparation of the last will which her husband had interest in. He also asserted that Dr Lee had been suspicious as to whether the change in shares was really LKY’s decision or one that was instigated by Mr Lee Hsien Yang and his wife. Dr Lee has denied such claims by LHL.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Dr Lee notes that contrary to what LHL has alleged about the final will (dated 17 Dec 2013), LKY knew full well the contents of his prior will when he signed it.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">According to Dr Lee, LKY had discussions with Ms Kwa to make changes to his 2012 will and parts of the discussions and LKY’s instructions were recorded in several emails between the two.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Dr Lee wrote that her father had come to a view that the government would reverse course on the “gazetting” of 38 Oxley Road after his death benefitting LHL as a result.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">“This was what I believe led Pa to decide to revert to reinstate the provision to demolish the house, which had always been his unwavering wish, and also to grant me the right to live in the house as long as I wished.” wrote Dr Lee.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Earlier in April this year, Dr Lee wrote about how media reports have continued to repeat LHL’s “false and dishonourable allegations” that her brother, Lee Hsien Yang had somehow swindled their father to get more in his final will. The media reports made were in relation to allegations made by Attorney General’s Chamber against LHY’s wife to the Law Society.

<span style="background-color: white; color: #333333; font-family: "tahoma" , "verdana" , "arial" , sans-serif; font-size: 14px;">Back in 2017, the two siblings, Mr Lee Hsien Yang and Dr Lee had accused their brother of abusing his position on their dispute over the demolition of the old property at 38 Oxley Road which led to the Prime Minister to convene a debate in Parliament where he self-declared himself as being innocent of all the allegations put forth against him. LHL had rejected calls to sue his two siblings for defamation as it would “further besmirch” their parents’ names, and drag out the process for years, creating further “distraction and distress” to Singaporeans.
New case of sexual misconduct surfaced in the best University in Asia.
25 cases involving sexual misconduct in NUS from 2015-2018 and how they were dealt with.

The National University of Singapore (NUS) voyeurism saga is not all that uncommon.

Three PDF documents detailing a comprehensive list of offences from 2015 to 2018 shines light on the consideration given in the cases, and the penalties meted out.

In one case, a NUS student entered a children’s toilet and filmed children in the adjacent cubicle on multiple occasions.

Interestingly, if the victims involved male students, it is less likely that police reports will be made.

Here are the cases that involve insult and/or outrage of modesty.
NUS undergraduate Ms Monica Baey was filmed showering in the hostel by a fellow student from the Faculty of Engineering. She lodged a police report and was told the pervert was only given a conditional warning instead of being charged in court. Past offenders of similar offences were typically given jail sentences.

Ms Baey said she tried to appeal for a heavier sentence, but was told by the investigating officer "You just have to accept the outcome" or "go to NUS and push for action".

We urged the Singapore police and AGC to apply the law fairly and equally to all by reopening the case and charge the pervert in court! Let a judge decide the appropriate punishment to be meted out!

We need to do more to protect our girls from such perverts! Such inaction is unacceptable and will only encourage more perverts to commit such crimes! It will also set an unhealthy precedent for future cases!

SINGAPORE — Education Minister Ong Ye Kung has expressed his concerns to the National University of Singapore (NUS) over the “manifestly inadequate” penalties that it has imposed in the recent sexual misconduct case.

Ong said in a post on his Facebook page on Monday (22 April) that he spoke to the NUS President and Board Chairman about the case on Saturday night.

“From here on, for offences that affect the safety of students on campus, we have to take a tough stand, and send a strong signal to everyone. Two strikes and you are out cannot be the standard application. NUS has to make its campus safe for all students, especially female students,” Ong said.

Ong did not specify the details of the case in his post. His comments come amid the furore over the conduct of a male NUS student who was caught on camera filming female undergraduate Monica Baey showering in a hostel toilet. Many NUS students and others have slammed the light punishments meted out to the offender.

The NUS Board of Discipline had ordered the male student to be suspended for one semester, banned from entering into housing premises on campus, undergo counselling, write a letter of apology, among other punishments.

The first-time offender was also given a 12-month conditional warning by the police. If the student were to commit an offence over the following 12 months after the warning, he would be prosecuted for both offences.

He added, “I am confident NUS’ review will result in a more robust process and stricter framework. The NUS Board and President are seized with this matter, and are determined to put a stop to such unacceptable behaviour on campus.”

“The University has heard your concerns. We are holding a town hall this week for NUS students, faculty and staff to gather feedback and concerns about sexual misconduct on campus and to discuss how the University can further strengthen its disciplinary and support frameworks,” NUS said in a post on its Facebook page.

On Sunday, almost 500 NUS students – with support from 194 students from other local universities and educational institutions – wrote a letter to the top management of NUS, urging them to take immediate steps to tackle sexual harassment on campus.

In their statement, the students wrote that the punishments given to the offender signalled that NUS “does not credibly enforce its stance against sexual voyeurism as a serious offence” and that “those who commit such an offence can arguably expect to receive a relatively light sentence”.

SPF issues statement on Nicholas Lim
There have been public discussions regarding the 12-month conditional warning given to a 23-year-old male National University of Singapore (NUS) undergraduate who had committed criminal trespass and insulted the modesty of a female undergraduate at the NUS.

There are two factors (which are both inter-related and yet separate): the first relates to rules to ensure that premises like NUS provide a safe environment, and the second relates to criminal prosecution. On the first, Police understand that NUS is reviewing its rules, on how such conduct is to be treated.

On the second issue: Police and AGC understand public concerns, on ensuring that our laws and enforcement provide sufficient protection for potential victims, and sufficient deterrence against would-be offenders. That is the approach that Police and AGC take.

In deciding whether to recommend prosecution for a criminal offence, a number of factors are considered by Police in each case, including the age of the accused, the likelihood of reoffending/rehabilitation, the extent of remorse shown, whether there are aggravating factors (for example, like circulation of the offending images).

In this case, the accused was assessed to have a high likelihood of rehabilitation, and was remorseful. There were also additional factors relating to his conduct which were relevant, such as the absence of other obscene materials in any of his devices.

A prosecution, with a possible jail sentence, will, likely ruin his entire future, with a permanent criminal record. Taking into account these factors, he was given a conditional warning, which means that if he commits any other criminal offence within 12 months, he will be liable to be prosecuted for both this current offence and the subsequent other offence. He will then likely face a jail sentence.

Our criminal justice system seeks to temper punishment and deterrence, with giving offenders a second chance to reform, based on assessment of the relevant factors.

The approach in this case is consistent with the approach taken in other cases. There have been a number of similar cases, where such conditional warnings have been given.

Where other relevant factors are involved, for example, a prior criminal record, premeditation to evade detection, there will often be a prosecution.

Allegations that the man was not prosecuted because he has influential parents are untrue - the Police and AGC did not consider his parents' background. Such factors are irrelevant considerations. It is unfortunate that such untruths have been put out. The man’s parents have agreed for it to be disclosed that his father is a driver in the public transport sector and his mother is a housewife.

The Police are also aware of comparisons being made between this case and a 2015 case involving a 23-year-old man who was charged and sentenced to 10 weeks’ imprisonment for filming a woman showering at Republic Polytechnic (RP).

The accused in the RP case had committed multiple criminal trespass offences, taken deliberate action to avoid detection by covering up the CCTVs in the vicinity and covering his face with a towel, and did not own up voluntarily but was arrested following Police investigations to track him down.

He was a former student of RP and had committed the offences over a period of four months. As such, the Police, in consultation with the AGC, prosecuted him in court. The facts in that case are quite different.

The system has to be fair and just to Nicholas too

The system has to be fair and just, it can't be the more vocal ones get disproportionately more say over the rest...

So the current punishment meted out to Nicholas is based on precedent cases and through the board of discipline ...

NUS did no wrong as this system has been practiced all along. To single out Nicholas for special treatment is manifestly unjust...

The National University of Singapore (NUS) on Monday (April 22) said it has a "second strike and you are out" policy for sexual misconduct cases.

Setting out how the university handles such cases, NUS vice-provost (student life) Florence Ling told The Straits Times that a student found guilty of sexual misconduct for a second time will be expelled.

"For first-time offenders, because we are an educational institution, we want to give the students a chance. Student offenders who appear before the Board of Discipline for the first time are given a range of punishments, but not immediate expulsion," she said.

Ms Baey herself was one of 489 signatories in a statement addressed to the NUS' heads on Sunday, expressing deep concerns about the university’s "approach towards sexual harassment".

The statement said: "While we understand the University’s need to maintain a balanced position on the matter and to keep in line with precedence, we find the punishment meted out in this case problematic because it signals to the NUS community at large that i) our University does not credibly enforce its stance against sexual voyeurism as a serious offence; ii) those who commit such an offence can arguably expect to receive a relatively light sentence; and iii) survivors of sexual violence and harassment will not receive adequate institutional and social support even if they voice their concerns to the relevant authorities."

The group of signatories made four recommendations, including suggesting that NUS make a "stronger statement against sexual harassment on campus" than the one dean Pang had issued, and publicly committing to a "zero-tolerance policy against sexual harassment".

In recent months, the government newspapers like Straits Times and CNA, have been been spreading fake news of Lee Hsien Yang’s wife, Lee Suet Fern, being guilty of professional misconduct.

Singapore’s mainstream media is ranked 151st in the world for credibility.

The Attorney General, who is Lee Hsien Loong’s former private lawyer, commenced legal actions against Lee Suet Fern as soon as he became AG, in a veiled attempt to invalidate Lee Kuan Yew’s last will.

In his last will, Lee Kuan Yew specified that the 38 Oxley Road house is to be demolished after his death.

Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong however wanted to turn the site into a memorial, so he could tether his political image to his father’s popularity. The move is also aimed to pave the way for his son, Li Hongyi, to become the next Prime Minister.

Lee Hsien Loong is currently seeking to circumvent the last will, through the abuse of his premiership powers by enforcing a legislation under the Preservation of Monuments Act. The PAP dictator is also persecuting his younger brother’s family members, sister-in-law Lee Suet Fern for allegedly “professional misconduct” and nephew Li Shengwu for allegedly “contempt of court”.

The other two siblings – Lee Hsien Yang and Lee Wei Ling – are defending the last will in their own way. Lee Wei Ling isolated herself residing in the house alone so the National Heritage Board could not enforce the Monument Act legislation.

Lee Hsien Yang is currently supporting and funding opposition political elements, hoping that his dictator brother Lee Hsien Loong will lose governance in the coming general election expected to take place later this year.

General public comments on this issue...

I thought LHL being the PM of Singapore, should set a good example, instead fighting about the house becomes hot news in the mass and social medias.......

walaneh! shock
Bro, family disputes became public issues ah! Worried
Why can't they just settle behind closed doors leh?

How can the head of a rich nation, PM Lee being called a dishonourable son (person), a liar, and abuse of power and yet, powerless to take action?
What will the world think of the people in Singapore?

Without any sign of a peaceful solution or discussion for a ceased fire agreement in sight.
Soon the attack from PM Lee's siblings and nephew will be intensified and could even be more vigorous and powerful than ever before..
HYFLUX PETITION

The online petition comes as shareholders and investors are asking why Hyflux’s audit firm gave the organisation a clean bill of health in its annual reports over the last decade, instead of flagging the risk that Hyflux would become embroiled in heavy debt

By Jewel Stolarchuk - April 17, 2019

Over 800 individuals have petitioned President Halimah Yacob to appoint a commission of inquiry to look into Hyflux.

About 34,000 perpetual securities and preference shareholders who invested in the water and power company are owed a total of S$900 million, but only stand to receive a recovery rate of 10.7 per cent comprising of 3 per cent in cash and 7 per cent in equity.

Calling these retail investors “risk averse and non sophisticated investors,” the online petition noted that these investors chose to invest their hard-earned funds into Hyflux as they considered the company’s water desalination plant a strategic national asset.

The online petition comes as shareholders and investors are asking why Hyflux’s audit firm gave the organisation a clean bill of health in its annual reports over the last decade, instead of flagging the risk that Hyflux would become embroiled in heavy debt.

KPMG has audited Hyflux since 2008. Hyflux slipped into the red for the first time in 2017 since it was listed in 2001. Two months later, it filed for bankruptcy.

The move shocked investors who had believed the company was healthy. Indeed, Hyflux’s financial statements before this point did not give cause for concern since it was prepared on the basis of an accounting method that assumes the company will remain solvent and operational indefinitely until proven otherwise.

Asking the President to intervene, the petitioners asked her to “appoint a commission of inquiry to take an independent review of this matter.” The petitioners requested that the review should look into whether adequate steps were taken to protect the interests of investors.

View the petition, which is nearing 1,000 signatures, HERE. One of the individuals who signed the petition is former presidential candidate and ex-NTUC Income CEO Tan Kin Lian, who funded the recent protest at Hong Lim Park against Hyflux’s restructuring plans.

The petition was organised as Singapore’s regulators have initiated a review into Hyflux to discover whether the debt-laden firm has breached regulations.

In a joint statement to Channel NewsAsia, the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS), the Accounting and Corporate Regulatory Authority (ACRA) and the Singapore Exchange Regulation (SGX) said they are “currently reviewing Hyflux-related disclosure issues”.

MAS, ACRA and SGX are also looking at “compliance with accounting and auditing standards, to determine if there have been breaches of listing rules and/or the relevant laws and regulations”.

Hyflux, which is nearing the end of a court-sanctioned debt moratorium on 30 Apr, told the publication that it is “cooperating fully” with the regulators.
Analysts have said that the odds of liquidation for Hyflux have risen, especially after the Salim-Medco rescue deal fell through with no assurances of another such deal. The Indonesian consortium was touted to be a “white knight” and the only hope for the retail investors of Hyflux who have been left high and dry.

On Monday, Hyflux filed a writ of summons in the Singapore High Court against the Indonesian consortium “to commence an action against the investor for repudiation of the restructuring agreement” as well as to claim a deposit of S$38.9 million.

I have often heard this complaint of the high passport renewal fee, but just shrugged it off as another of those daily complaints by typical Singaporean. After all, you pay it only once in 5 years, as the passport is valid for 5 years.

But when a coffeeshop cleaner started grumbling about the fee, and that he will not be renewing his passport, I decide to put myself in his shoes, and analyse the situation he is facing that is so serious, that it caused him not to have a passport at all.

More importantly, what he doesn't understand is, why the regime of LKY charged only a token sum of $10 for a new passport but the current regime is charging such high fee that it deterred him from having a passport altogether?

Let's look at the numbers. There are about 3.3 million Singaporeans, and over 5 years, these people would have paid 3.3million x $70 or about $47 million to the government's coffer. Divide that by 5 and you have approximately $9.4 million per year of collection.

Based on what we heard from Heng Swee Keat, every year we have a surplus of $1 billion to $10 billion, every year.

Except for the recession year some time in 2009, which happened only once a lifetime. And that is also because the Govt chose to dig into the Reserves, even though they can chose not to, and we would have been OK.

Important Reminder - One billion is 1,000 millions. So even if the govt decide to pay for all the passport renewals, it will be less than an insect bite to the Govt. So why did this new regime under Lee Hsien Loong, is determine to hit Singaproeans with "fine" for renewing their passport?

Just to put things more in perspective, the casino levies collected from Singaporeans and PR came to $134 million a year in 2017. More than enough to pay for all passport renewals, by more than 13 times.

And I haven't even talked about other forms of gambling levy in other legalized gambling outlets, and other form of taxes, GST, COE, etc.

By the way, passport fees are regressive, just like the GST. It means the poor will be the hardest hit. It is like robbing the poor to pay for the rich. You may google to find out why GST is regressive, it will be another topic for now.

Questions surfaced after this simple analysis.

1. Wouldn't it be better politically for him to stick to previous policy of the previous administration? Give something back to the people? In this case, every Singaporean will benefit. Take it as a personal right for all Singaporeans to travel freely, without any financial barrier or restriction?

2. This analysis also threw out the govt's argument that fee had not been increased over the years, and the need to cater for rising cost. It is obvious that it is a blatant lie, a total rubbish in more layman's term. Is it not?

3. All these fee increases, in this case by over 7 times, would have taken away the so-called cash distribution in the form of GST rebates. Last known was $300 annually for those eligible. Would it not?

For all the items above, looking at it from a non-partisan or non-biased view, it is quite obvious that the govt doesn't really care too much about it's people when come to money.

In fact, the govt's attitude is that of, EVERY CITIZEN OWES THE GOVERNMENT, (regardless of your financial background, race or religion) and not the way around. The govt has created a world class country that is safe for you to stay and be proud of, you must pay them for that, regardless.

So they will not hesitate to impose, if deemed fit, any form of charges, fees, rates, fares, taxes and salary increases for themselves. And, if deemed fit, to increase the existing ones.

Whatever form of subsidies or grants that they offer you, will be taken back from you eventually in other forms.

And all these money collected from you, the people, will be channelled to the Sovereign Fund held by Temasek and the GIC. The monies will be invested oversea, not you and me.

Although there are strict provisions for it to be used for the country under very unlikely circumstances, you are not likely to ever see those money again in your lifetime. For the people, these monies can be written off as bad debt.

Let's hear it from some veterans, past and present, and the public in general. Some names of authors are not given basically to protect them from any persecution by the dictator government.

This is the words of our great leader of the founding generation, ex-Deputy PM Mr. Toh Chin Chye on why raising the withdrawal age is a breach of trust by the dictator government.

"Dr Toh Chin Chye: We need to clearly define the boundaries within which the CPF will be used for retirement. We must spell that out. You just cannot say, “Let us raise the withdrawal age to 60 or 65.” It must be 60. It must be 65. Now, at which age?

This Paper does not contain any calculation at all to say what will happen if it is withdrawn at 60, or what will happen if it is withdrawn at 65. If I were a person who has no relatives, if I were a widower with no children, all the assumptions made by this Committee – that you will be looked after by your children – then I do not qualify under any of these grounds.

Mr Speaker, I think fundamental principles are being breached. The fundamental principle is this. The CPF is really a fixed deposit or a loan to Government, which can be redeemed at a fixed date when the contributor is 55 years old.

If I were to put this sum of money in a commercial bank and, on the due date I go to the bank to withdraw the money, the manager says, “I am sorry, Dr Toh, you will have to come next year”, there will be a run on the bank! It is as simple as this, that the CPF has lost its credibility, the management of it.

This is fundamental…This is the nub of the problem – the credibility of the management, gradual encroachment into the purpose of the CPF which was instituted really to provide for retirement."

------------------------------------------------
Anonymous:

Imagine you put your money in a bank as 1yr fixed deposit.

After one year you go to the bank to collect the $$. Banker say cannot auto extend for 10yrs. You ask why banker say we worry about you people have bad habits take tge money will go anyhow spend so i am doing it for your own good. In any case i think you need insurance and annuities I think it is good for you so i already enroll you. If you want you can use the money to service housing loan with us...otherwise cannot touch until 10yrs later for your own good.

That is essentially what has happened to CPF....

Just like banker, those in control wont tell the real reasons why they do this instead they use a pretext and claim they are doing for your own good.

There are many reasons why the govt delays. and control access to your own fund:..

1. They can lower their own expeditures by enrolling you on various insurance and scheme using your CPF for programmes that should be supported by govt revenues.

2. Second is the the CPF funds is loaned to sovereign wealth funds GIC/Temasek for investment purposes and they keep the excess returns. This create a big conflict of interest because the more they delay your access the more they can exploit your funds. In fact of you go read the early speeches of Goh Keng Swee, such an arrangement was used to build up reserves when Singapore was poorer.

I proposed 2 serious reforms:

1. To require all excess returns from use of CPF for sovereign wealth investment to be returned to account holders....all countries and major pension do this. The current practice create a conflict of interest in policy making should be stopped.

2. Stop compulsory insurance schemes that potentially drain cpf accounts over time.
------------------------------------------------
Anonymous:

Its a slipppery slope.

But its not just delay, CPF now forciby used for insurance like careshield and converted into annuities etc...so the govt now is forcing this money into schemes they created so they do not need to spend from their budget

Once you allow govt to use the argument that you cannot be trusted to have access to your own money....you cede controlto on what they can do....

You basically go onto that slippery slope...they can create various schemes to use CPF to reduce their budget expenditure on healthcare and elderly care etc by tapping CPF into various schemes.
------------------------------------------------

Today the govt raise withdrawal age and included all sort of scheme and insurance etc so that they are not indebted to people.
They drained everything.

They already got 70% votes and monopolize Parliament for so many years
Why should they care about trust ?

------------------------------------------------
Anonymous:

Imo, they cannot simply just push the cpf withdrawal age up and up and up .....

They should take into the consideration of people's life span and the enjoyment we needed.

If they push it up to eg 65, we have less than 10 years to enjoy our fruits.....supposing we kick the bucket average 75 yr old , not to factor in before kick the bucket, we probably spend another 1 to few years struggling in the hospital waiting to die....

Their computation is based on how to accumulate as much at the govt side from the people.

Whether you have quality of life or lying in hospital when your cpf money finally come is not their concern.

They only concern is how to keep the money from us.

I have a friend, her mother passed away at the age of 79 yr old.

She started dementia around 75 yr old. Struggling for 4 years in and out of hospital, coma, liver not functioning, etc...

Just imagine, if push to 65, only have 5 years to enjoy and probably more than 40 years of hardship.

You seriously think they are in politics because they love the masses and public? You are a politician because you love to control, love to come up with policies and rules for the masses. The handshake and walkabout are just ways to PR. Try having them walk the ground everyday and without any media coverage. You think it will happen?

They rather be playing golf somewhere.

“I want to get my money back,” said Mr Weng. “The government should not lock up our money. I have 40% of my CPF locked up (in the Minumum Sum). I mean, I’m a retiree now, and I tried asking the CPF front office for it, but they didn’t do anything.”

Ibrahim, 60, shared similar sentiments. “I am old enough to know how to spend my own money, so why does the government want to control my CPF? I want to use it to help support my daughter who is studying in Australia. I also need to spend some on my Hajj, as this is a very important religious obligation for me.”

“I tried speaking to my Member of Parliament, but he did not help. I’m not happy with it,” he added.

It seems Health Care is unsustainable and hard choices will be made, presumably more taxes, Health COE, and whatever it takes to push the buck back to the people.

What is not said is that, he will continue to accumulate billions in Budget surpluses to be channeled to external investments via Temasek and GIC that don't benefit the people in general.

If resources are not managed properly and prudently, nothing is sustainable.

For example, the billions spent on defence. How is it sustainable and is for what? While necessary, but why the huge part of our budget? It can't even deter the Malaysian govt boats encroaching into our water.

And of course what is really unsustainable by any world standard, is the huge cost of our Cabinet and the astronomical ministers' pay, in particular white elephants like Senior Ministers and ESMs. If we are a Meritocracy, then where or what is the merit for their existence?

A good snapshot of what happened but it also highlights the kind of problems we are facing these days with this government.

While data hacking and data security issues will take time to resolve or reduce, the uncovering of new issues every few months means that there could be many hidden skeletons in the closet.

Action plans on PMETs seems like more talks than actions, and the usual blame on external factors beyond our celebrity ministers' control.

Corruption cases, my opinion on this is the same as some PAP supporters, that corruption can never be eradicated totally, especially in a country with almost absolute power, they can even rename corruption to something else, like donations, gifts or salaries, for examples.

The water issue is generating a long term windfall for the govt, thanks to Mahathir. You can expect the price of water to trend upward, with PAP giving the same excuses (so that we won't be threatened) while continue to pay cost of only 3 sen to Malaysia for a long time to come. So head or tail, Ah Loong wins.

They squeeze the public with the fear factor that always works. Singapore is never in fear of having no water. They have already built enough safeguards over the past 20 years to prevent that from happening. This, they will never tell you.

As for most expensive city, regardless, they will continue to raise the GST and hold your money in the Reserves for investment, as their Sovereign Fund, and accumulation of the Reserves for the illusive "rainy" day which will never come in yours or my or your kids' lifetime, as they continue to accumulate billion$ at your expense.

What is rainy and what is not rainy is also decided by the absolute power that be. The only rainy day that can happen to Singapore is when we discovered we have nothing left in our Reserves, when a new government took over.

He showed no urgency to even stand up and say a few words of condolences to those who lost their lives prematurely, during that Parliamentary session.

In fact, during that 17 months, there were 9 NS men deaths. But they discounted those deaths from suicide and exhaustion, focusing on only training accident.

This lack of response, or procrastination by the prime minister is a Hallmark of his PMship, mainly out of fear or shame, and most likely out of indecisiveness.

You will never see the take-the-lead attitude of Theresa May, or unwavering decisiveness of Donald Trump, from this mediocre personality. But he's paying himself millions, many times more than Trump and May, for his sloppy work and lacklustre character.

When Malaysian boats intruded, we heard nothing from the PM in Parliament either. He left it to his lackeys to do talking.

It was on 31st December during the New Year speech that he mentioned about problems with Malaysia and other countries. About two months after the first intrusion.

Many angry Singaporeans are taking to social media to voice their unhappiness.

–--------------------------------------+++++++-----
Here is some details from Mustsharenews.com on his Facebook's response to Aloysius Pang's death.

PM Lee gave his take on the recent Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) training-related deaths that have caused distress among many Singaporeans.

In his Facebook post, PM Lee assures Singaporeans that the SAF treats safety very seriously, and repeated Minister Ng Eng Hen’s promise to strive for 0 training fatalities.
Here’s his post in full, we also break it down for you after the jump.
Incidents are “very painful”.

Mr Lee started his post by touching on the recent training incidents that have caused “precious lives” to be lost, and how this has affected all Singaporeans.
Describing these incidents as “very painful”, he notes how “heartbreaking” these must have been to Singaporeans, especially for the families involved.

He also acknowledged that when this occurs to a public figure like Mr Pang, the “emotional impact is greater, and the loss is even harder to take”.
SAF places “enormous emphasis” on training safety Despite recent incidents, PM Lee wrote in his post that the SAF places “enormous emphasis” on training safety.

According to PM Lee, after every fatal accident, the SAF carries out investigations to identify the cause of the incident. And when causes are identified, the SAF takes steps to improve its processes to prevent similar incidents from happening in the future.
Even though having 0 fatalities sounds like it might be impossible, PM Lee hopes that the SAF will strive towards it, because “every life is precious”.
PM Lee draws on his personal experience as a commander in the SAF.

PM Lee then went on to speak about his personal experience. During his early days as a unit commander, he was responsible for his men’s training, safety and welfare.
This, to him, was similar to “standing in” for his servicemen’s parents.
Then, when he served on the General Staff, PM Lee was directly involved in the aftermath of SAF training incidents.

In his words, some of his responsibilities included:

Deciding what needed to be fixed

Deciding if anyone should be punished

What the SAF should continue doing and what it should stop.

How to account to the bereaved families

How to keep servicemen safe while fulfilling the SAF’s mission.

Now as Singapore’s PM, he believes that he’s staffed the Ministry of Defence with competent leaders capable of answering to the Singaporean public whenever an accident occurs.
This, in his opinion, is important for the SAF to maintain public confidence and support.
In his words,
I can therefore assure you that i and the SAF leadership take safety with utmost seriousness. It was so when I was there, and I am confident it is even more so today.
“We cannot outsource our security and defence“

Moving on, PM Lee once again reiteratedthe importance of having a capable defence force.
Despite the tragic incidents of late, the SAF must continue training and realising its operational obligations.
That’s because We cannot outsource our security and defence to anyone else.

According to him, we have a “strong and well-trained” defence force to thank for the peace, security, and good international ties that we enjoy today.
PM Lee hopes S’poreans can see things in perspective.

In conclusion, PM Lee took the opportunity to thank Singaporeans for their support towards the SAF, and in particular our national service.
He hopes that Singaporeans will be able to see things in perspective the next time “something goes wrong”.

Even though we shouldn’t ignore the SAF’s imperfections, we should not forget the SAF’s progress over the years, and the vital part it plays in keeping our country safe.

That is exactly what his govt is doing now in the latest annual budget day announcement by Heng Swee Keat, the so-called Finance Minister.

Chan repeatedly put words in the mouths of Singaporeans by insisting that Singaporeans are not so easily bribed. So much for the legalization of corruption here.

Not surprisingly, he mentioned nothing about the massive bribes he is getting in the form of exorbitant salary payment never seen before in world history.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-349958244836911106.post-91251740997933412822019-02-16T05:24:00.000-08:002019-05-15T14:24:14.948-07:00Had Your MP Ever Spoken For You in Parliament?

The title of the above video is, VOTE THEM OUT: PAP MP's Do Not Speaks For You in Parliament.

This is really a no-brainer title as we know these MPs are mediocre Yes-men. They were specially selected and approved by the failing dictator himself. They owe him a lifetime of success. He is their God of Fortune.

Why would they want to speak for a bunch of hopeless people called Singaporeans, unless asked by their God of Fortune to do so? How and what can these people benefit the MP if he speak for them? Nothing.

But the people have their all important "votes"? You may ask.

Wrong! Their votes don't matter at all. Read why your vote doesn't matter anymore, 5 articles below.
From obscurity to fame and possibly a key opposition figure in the coming general election, thanks to the redundant PM Lee effort in reading every blog post that criticized him, probably with the help of some Pap lackeys.

Blogger Leong became a star overnight by the unwitting action of a sickly and failing Prime Minister.

Singaporean blogger Leong, is fighting back after Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong sued him for defamation for sharing an article on Facebook linking the leader to a corruption scandal.

Observers say the government is increasingly targeting online criticism – the case against blogger Leong Sze Hian comes the same month the editor of a news portal was charged with defamation.

The prime minister lodged the defamation suit against Leong earlier in December for posting on his Facebook page a link to an article alleging that Lee was the target of an investigation in neighbouring Malaysia over the scandal at sovereign wealth fund 1MDB.

Lee said the article, originally published by a Malaysian news portal, was false and without basis and that Leong had reposted the link to smear his reputation.

The article, titled “Breaking News: Singapore Lee Hsien Loong Becomes 1MDB’s Key Investigation Target — Najib Signed Several Unfair Agreements with Hsien Loong In Exchange for Money Laundering”, was sourced from another blog, States Times Review.

States Times Review describes itself as “formerly a Singapore news media based in Australia” and now “a personal blog in response to Singapore's latest censorship laws”.

Singapore was the first country to legally act on the 1MDB saga. It has fined eight banks and convicted four people linked to the Malaysian fund since its investigations began in 2015.

In September, a Singapore court also ordered the return of some S$15.3 million (RM46.3 million) misappropriated from 1MDB to Malaysia.
Malaysia’s former leader Najib Razak and his cronies are accused of having stolen billions of dollars from 1MDB in an audacious fraud that spanned the globe. Najib has been charged but denies wrongdoing.

Leong, a regular critic of government policies, has now lodged a countersuit against Lee for alleged abuse of the court system.
“The predominant purpose of the claim is the use of the legal process to chill freedom of expression in Singapore,” said Leong in his suit, which was posted on Facebook on Wednesday along with details of his defence.

He said all he had done was to make the article available on his Facebook page “without embellishment or comment” for less than three days.
Leong launched a crowdfunding campaign earlier this week aimed at raising S$10,000 (US$7,280) towards his legal fees – a fund to which Lee Hsien Yang, the prime minister’s younger brother, said he had donated a “meaningful sum”, according to local news website Today.

When asked why he had donated, Lee Hsien Yang reportedly replied: “surely it needs no explanation?”

Singapore’s Prime Minister and his two siblings, the children of the city state’s founding father Lee Kuan Yew, have quarrelled bitterly over the fate of their parents’ bungalow.

The Prime Minister’s siblings claim their father always wanted his house to be torn down after his death, but a ministerial committee has been studying future options for the house, including preserving it partially or completely.

Ruling People’s Action Party, co-founded by Lee, held key meetings in the basement of the property in the 1950s.

Amid the feud, Lee Hsien Yang’s son, Harvard academic Li Shengwu, made a Facebook post that resulted in the Attorney General’s Chambers in Singapore launching contempt of court proceedings against him last year.

Earlier this month, Terry Xu, editor of Singapore news site The Online Citizen, was charged with defamation for publishing a letter that alleged corruption among the city state’s leaders.

Singapore is regularly ranked among the world’s least corrupt countries and its leaders are sensitive to accusations of corruption.
With Singapore’s media scene dominated by pro-government publications, criticism of the authorities is mostly expressed online.
Phil Robertson, Asia's deputy director of Human Rights Watch, which has been critical of Singapore's laws limiting critical speech and peaceful assembly, said the Singapore government was engaged in bullying tactics against STR.

"If a story is inaccurate, Singapore should refute it with facts, not shoot the messenger. Actions like these show that when it comes to media freedom, Singapore is no better than repressive regimes like Vietnam or Laos," Robertson said.

Unlike what the govt would like you to believe, the reality is, your vote doesn't really matter. Your vote absolutely counts, but it doesn’t matter. Yes, you’ll change the total number of people who voted for one party, but you won’t change the outcome.

If everyone thought that way, then a fluke election result could happen - many in power would say, to frighten you. But the reality is everyone doesn't think that way. And even if you start thinking that way, your closest family member won't automatically follow you.

I have all past 12 general elections (GE) results to back me up on this. None of the 12 GEs came up with fluke results, not even close to one. The lowest that the PAP polled was in 2011, but still won 60.1 per cent of the total votes.

So the truth is you can just go out to the election booth and cast for the opposition or damage the vote, it doesn't really matter. Even if you have damaged your vote or refused to vote, they still need another vote to break any tie, not just your vote.

The chances of your vote becoming the decisive vote of which party to rule Singapore is 1 in 2.3 million (depending on total number of voters), as difficult as winning Toto lottery. It may take thousands of elections for any fluke results to happen, assuming no gerrymandering and tweaking of the election rules by the ruling party.

The argument that it is a duty of every citizen to vote, and exercise your sacred rights to decide the government, again doesn't hold water. The assumption here is that when you vote you will always vote the right people or party to best manage the country and it's resources. But we have seen how many MPs that the people voted, turn out to be scandalous individuals who needed to be replaced through by-elections. Their choice turned out to be hurting the voters themselves through bad policies and corrupt practises by those elected.

There is no guarantee that the PAP will take care of voters' needs and expectations, just as nobody can tell for sure, if the opposition could actually do a better job than the current government over time.

WHY PAP KNOWS YOUR VOTE DOESN'T MATTER

Over a period of about 20 years under the ironclad rule of Lee Kuan Yew, there was no opposition MP in the Parliament. It was embarrassing that every Parliamentary session was like a corporate meeting of PAP Incorporated, especially if one decides to telecast it on national TV.

So they started the Nominated MP scheme, now called Non-Constituency MP, where a few specially selected professionals or businessmen could ask some questions in Parliament, so as to provide some homework for the PAP Ministers and MPs to do, to justify their existence.

But this scheme, as long as it is still there, is a measurement of how confident the PAP is, of winning the next and future General Elections. As long as the number of opposition MPs is very low (say less than 20), the NCMP scheme will always be there.

In their best showing in 2011, the oppositions have 6 elected MPs in Parliament winning 6 out of the then 87 contested seats. That is less than 7% of the total number of seats, despite winning nearly 40% of the total votes in the General Election. This mismatch is so wide, it is unbelievable.

The voice of 40% of voters were represented by only 7% of the MPs in Parliament.

Gerrymandering of boundary, redesignating of Constituencies, the undemocratic GRC system, plus other constraints placed on the opposition helped made this happened. And it is why the NCMP scheme is still needed to make Parliament look less like a HQ of PAP.

So even if the opposition were to win say, 55% of the total votes, they will just have another 5 to 10 additional MPs in Parliament.

See? Your vote doesn't matter at all. PAP will still have around 80% of the MPs in Parliament despite losing the majority of total votes.

PAP would then have enough time to tweak the rules and Constitution to ensure the party stays in power in the following GE, if they decides to have one.

Remember, they also have the power to suspend GE in the name of national security, but at the moment, they have enough of mechanism to ensure they do not need to resort to this trump card.

Now you know why PM Lee was always smiling when talking about General Election. It is a non-event to him, probably like a Circus coming to town that he needs to perform in once every few years. The power given to PAP over the last 53 years had allowed them to change the rules of the game so much in their favour that it really is making a mockery of the democratic process of having elections.

They have enough safety nets to entrenched themselves permanently as the govt of Singapore and what LKY once said is now a fact (see photo below). The PAP, with no apology, is the permanent government of Singapore. And with no apology, your vote doesn't really matter to them.

SINGAPORE — From Dec 29, adults taking buses and MRT trains will have to pay six cents more for card fares, while single-trip train fare and adult cash bus fare will rise by 10 cents.

Students and senior citizens will pay up to 1 cent more in card fares.
The Public Transport Council (PTC) announced this on Tuesday (Oct 30) at the close of a first fare review using a new formula that factors in changes to operating costs.

It said that these fare changes amounted to an overall 4.3 per cent hike, which is the maximum allowable amount of increase going by the new formula, after factoring in a carry-forward reduction of 3.2 per cent from last year. Otherwise, the increase would have been 7.5 per cent.

The biggest contributing factor to the hike — other than a sharp 26.2 per cent rebound in energy prices — is the new “network capacity factor”, which tracks how much bus and rail capacity has changed in relation to real usage. It indicated that ridership had not kept up with capacity growth, and this accounted for 3 percentage points of the 4.3 per cent cap in fare increase.

There will be no changes to the cash fares for students and senior citizens, or prices of monthly concession passes.

The fare reduction measure introduced last December as part of the 2017 review exercise remains. This is the 50-cent saving for commuters who pay by cards and travel during the morning pre-peak hours by tapping in before 7.45am at any train station.

The Ministry of Transport has accepted the PTC’s recommendations.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, Transport Minister Khaw Boon Wan said that raising fares is an “unavoidable decision” even if it is not welcomed by commuters.
Public transport operators rely on fare adjustments to keep pace with operating cost, he said.

Mr Khaw noted that commuters earned 10 per cent more in wages in the past three years, yet fares have gone down by 8.3 per cent in three consecutive fare review exercises before this year’s exercise.

Separately, the PTC said in a press release that this round of fare hikes is “necessary in a rising cost environment”, especially since public transport operators SMRT Rail and SBS Transit are facing “significant operating losses”.
“These cost pressures have also been faced by other cities which have had to raise fares to keep pace with the operating cost increases,” the council added.

With the hike, SMRT Rail will stand to take in S$24.1 million more for its higher repair and maintenance costs and the increase in manpower to run expanded operations and improve its rail network performance.
SBS Transit is expecting to earn S$10.9 million more, which will go into padding up its Downtown Line operations, increase in manpower and salary adjustments for workers.

The hike will also bring in S$43.2 million more in revenue to support public bus operations, which is facing an operation deficit to the tune of some S$1 billion a year, a sum to be borne by the Government through subsidies, PTC chairman Richard Magnus said.

Asked at a press conference on Tuesday why the full 4.3 per cent fare hike is implemented, Mr Magnus said that it is to “narrow the gap as far as possible” between rising infrastructure costs and what commuters are paying.
“Even with the 4.3 per cent increase, the gap continues to be there,” he added, noting that the revenue only “marginally” padded up and “contained” the rising public transport costs. “(Our approach is to) balance the economic aspects and social costs.”

FARE REDUCTIONS ‘UNLIKELY’ IN COMING YEARS

Analysing from energy prices, wage, and inflation trends, Mr Magnus said that fare reductions are “unlikely” in the next fare review exercise, and assessed that there is little need to carry over a certain percentage of the amount of increase into the next year.

The next fare review won’t be “a negative” where there is a reduction in fares, but a question of how much higher it might go, he said.
If the PTC were to bring over a 2 per cent increase, then next year’s increase will be higher. “It is better to spread out the fare increase over a period of time rather than a steep jump next year.”

Putting it in a larger context, Mr Magnus said that public transport fares had stayed affordable “for a good 10 years”, what with the percentage of household income spent on public transport having gone down since 2007.
PTC’s calculations showed that the average commuter spent 1.9 per cent of his income on public transport last year as compared to 2.9 per cent in 2007, while a commuter from the lower-income group spent 2.7 per cent last year versus 4.1 per cent in 2007, he added.

If you have, then probably you would have thought of how difficult that is. You would have considered that the AG was handpicked by the PM himself and that the AG was the personal lawyer of the prime minister. No lapdog will bite the hands that feed them.

That's cronyism. By the way cronyism like nepotism is never a crime in Singapore. In fact it was a tradition brought down by LKY himself.

So, even if you win your case in Court, you have to contend with the parliamentary whip that the PM possess at his disposal. Parliament is of course above the Law. There, you have a whole gang of cronies and lapdogs waiting to eat you up. The WP MPs will be glad to tell you more on that.

But what really surprised us is that the sibling of the Prime Minister that is Lee Hsien Yang is chipping in to support this suit against his own brother. He is donating money to help the blogger who is suing his brother to fight abuse of power by the prime minister. This is the first time that the PM got countersued. Also, it is taking the sibling war to a whole new level.

FACTS OF THE MATTER:

Lee Hsien Yang, the self-exiled younger brother of PM Lee Hsien Loong has taken the lead and donated to veteran blogger Leong Sze Hian’s Legal Defence Fund.

Confirming the donation with TR Emeritus (TRE), Leong said that Mr Lee was the first person to make a donation to his Legal Defence Fund.
Lee Hsien Yang sent me a message that he has transferred (lo and behold he is the first one to do so into my account!) and he also suggested that I can share his action publicly.

A Legal Defence Fund was recently setup to crowdfund for Leong’s legal expenses against PM Lee’s defamation suit and readers willing to contribute may use the following accounts:

Leong Sze Hian
POSB Savings: 064064070

Leong had originally wanted to represent himself against PM Lee’s defamation suit but changed his mind and initiated a counter suit against PM Lee for supposed abuse of court process.

Mr Lim Tean of Carson Laws Chambers is representing Leong in both suits.
On his counter suit against PM Lee, Leong said:
Singaporeans must let our overpaid Ministers know once and for all, that it does not pay to sue ordinary citizens for defamation.

Singaporeans and their children, and their children’s children will never have to fear being sued, for exercising their rights of freedom of expression.
Leong also shared with TRE that Mr Lee had, after making a contribution, expressed his hope that others will be encouraged (by his action) to do the same (contribute to worthy causes).

Mr Lee Lee Hsien Yang also said “hope this will encourage others”, “you are welcome to post that I have donated”
.
Currently, Leong is hoping to raise S$10,000, the same amount which TRE is also trying to raise to upgrade its ailing website.
TOP PUBLIC COMMENTS

Regardless of how much Hsien Yang has donated (a token gesture since his wealth would cover 1000s of lawsuits), his action has a huge impact on how netizens are going to move forward till the next GE. I see it as Hsien Yang has just sent a stealth but STRONG signal and it is up to Singaporeans to receive it or not.
Should we continue to shut up with balls hidden between our legs or stand up, be counted and support worthy causes?

IMHO, as it stands now, those in the ivory towers has just snooked themselves. Maybe they should fire their “sue until your pants drop” panel of advisers who encouraged and suggested the latest slew of legal actions.
Mr Leong was a NOBODY compared to the plaintiff, but this lawsuit has just turned him into a SOMEBODY who is fighting for the rights of the PEOPLE. Only morons will think that Just because commoners remain quiet, they are not angry and eager for change. This lawsuit may inadvertently galvanize these angry groups.

The 2 lawsuits are no longer a simple defamation lawsuit, it is a mini GE and whatever the outcome, the ruling party has already lost (in the court of public opinion). Even if the plaintiff were to be awarded 200k in damages, it would also equate to the loss of the number of potential voters who donated even a dollar to finance the lawsuits.
What do you think?
Not long ago, LHY n LWL have told Singaporeans in no uncertain terms with very significant keywords Bureaucrats Compliancy n such accusation was not dealt with as most loudly pronounced by the only three PMs all living at the time of their public announcement that any defamatory remarks will be dealt in a Court of Laws else the accusation will be deemed to be true n the said accuser will have to resign.

But in this case, surprising to most Singaporeans the siblings were not sued in a Court of Laws.
But most Singaporeans wonder n still wonder how could such accusation be brought before the Court unless the case is heard by a Court independent of bureaucracy but who can verify its independence unless the jury system is revived n the verdict to be decided by the Jury. It is at this juncture Singaporeans realized why LKY abolished the Jury System just because a jury found a man accused of murder not guilty on lack of evidence as seen by the Jury n from then on Court verdict is totally decided by the presiding Judge.

LHY’s contribution is thus
most significant in how the State vs Leong is dealt by the Court with the decision purely in the hand of the presiding Judge n the prosecution by AGC headed by AG once faced with conflict of interest which was publicly defended by Indrani by virtue that he has a successful legal career n therefore there is no conflict of interest, which was found ludicrous even to non legal professional with objective n independent thinking as conflict of interest arise solely on relationship which is seen possible to be the very source of career success.

This is indeed more significant to Singapore than the Trump Kim meeting which is seen by PAP n not by the citizenry to be a historic meeting worth $psoending $28 millions of Singaporeans State Fund to provide full financial support at least for Kim as reported but no report whether Trump also enjoyed the same privileges. 好賤哦! Really pathetic n disgustingly depraving for the little red dot?Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-349958244836911106.post-18530863335961905812018-12-15T00:02:00.000-08:002018-12-27T18:14:54.206-08:00Some Truths Worth RememberingAs 2018 draws to a close, there are some truths worth noting, and should not be forgotten as they can very well affect your future, and the future of this country.

1. Presidential Election
While I totally have no problem with Halimah as President, but the process of getting her there by the PM left much to be desired. There are plenty of excuses given by the govt, but deep down the heart of every Singaporean, including the people directly involved, knows very well there were enough of manipulations to ensure she got there.

The truth is, this absolute power of the PM to manipulate and control the country, if falls into the hands, will one day prove disastrous for the country.

2. The 38 Oxley Road Parliamentary Debate and Conclusion
This is another case of manipulation by the PM to get his wife out of troubles. Ho Ching obviously had committed a very serious jailable crime by signing off as as officer of the PMO, which she never is and never was. This was exposed by the siblings of PM Lee. To go around the legal process, the PM had the Parliament to decide on the issue, as Parliamentary decision is above the Law.

We all saw it "live" on TV, the Parliament debate was a shamble, with the ruling party avoiding and the PM openly ignoring any questions related to the Ho Ching crime, by attacking the oppositions for bringing it up. The case and anything related to Oxley Road was considered closed by the Parliament.

But the truth is, Ho Ching did commit a crime, and should be jailed like anybody else who did the same.

3. The exorbitant salaries of Ministers
This is another sad truth and a case of political manipulation for personal gains by the rulers of this country. They can use all sorts of excuses to justify that they deserve those high salaries. They can even change whatever Law there is to make it perfectly legal.

But the moment you walk out of Singapore, you will find it hard to reconcile the fact that our Ministers are earning many times more than the President of America, who is the highest paid leader in the world, outside of Singapore. And the current leader of China, Xi, who is so devoted and dedicated to making a huge country, China, great again, is happy to be paid about one-tenth of the salary of our PM.

The truth is there for the world to see. But crooks like ex-PM Goh, claimed that they are underpaid. Goh of course is still a Minister despite having resigned as PM eons ago, receiving his huge salary for doing nothing significant.

World Most Expensive Cabinet

Legally there is nothing wrong, morally and ethically this is absolutely wrong and untenable. This topic is like a bad smell that can never be washed away, because the truth will always stinks for the greedy and crooked. If the govt should fall one day, this will definitely be one of the main reason.

4. Collusion and Conspiracy?

Call it any name you like, but the truth is when the husband and wife are running 2 totally separate entities, the 2 most powerful and important entities to the country, that is the government, and the other one is a privatised company holding almost all the wealth of the country, how do you ensure independence of the private company from govt intervention? And how do you ensure govt confidential information not passed on to the private company?

The truth is, there is no way to ensure that, as proven by the signing off by Ho Ching as a PMO officer when she is not. This kind of marriage of convenience can never happen in any advance countries, not even communist China. And when this couple inevitably died, this kind of immoral practice of nepotism will continue, and if falls into the wrong hands, the country and it's huge reserve are screwed, like the 1MDB case up north of our border.

Mahathir is now back with a vengeance. Having lost the Tanjong Pagar railway station and a long stretch of railway land to Singapore through the incompetence of his predecessor, he is now given a second chance to make things right.

Mahathir have also opened another 2 fronts in his vengeance trail. He has revived the call for Singapore to review the price of water that Singapore is paying for the water from Johor, calling the 3 sen pricing ridiculous, which I must agree. But the greedy PAP ministers are not going to give up a sen (Malaysia currency term for cent).

And now we have a totally new front, the sea between Singapore and Johore on the western side of the Straits is now a hotly contested area. This is purely political, as there is no oil, gas or mineral in this stretch of sea. Perhaps a few fishermen.

Only old timer like Mahathir would know the history and evidence behind this latest claim, and he seemed confident of winning court case in this dispute. As usual, don't expect this cunning old man to reveal the evidence to us instead of the judge.

He has also ordered at least 3 Malaysian government-owned boats to enter this area, and remain there until negotiation or court case is over. Be prepared for a long and drawn out saga. It will likely be a permanent stalemate and likely lead to more conflicts later on, as the young leaders from Singapore are just not used to handling such bilateral dispute.

In preparation for future conflict, Mahathir had ordered an unprecedented closure of the custom complex for 2 hours on the 13th of December. They are having a drill on how to handle evacuation in times of emergency. War between these 2 neighbouring countries is looking like a distinct possibility, something we all took for granted for far too long.

Mahathir had also taken potshot at the high salaries of Singapore Ministers. He claimed that Prime Minister's pay of $20,000 is more than enough for himself. Lee Hsien Loong pay of $2,200,000 is widely publicised and he made no apologies for it, and arrogantly claimed that his pay is lower than an average CEO. We haven't talk about the bonuses and other benefits yet.

In fact, his supporters claimed that that is too low, even though it is already 5 times more than the next highest paid leader in the world, the President of USA. Being diplomatic and friendly to everyone, yes, but be humble, no. Not when they can loathe over anyone in the world with their stratospheric remuneration.

This, of course, is causing resentment among leaders of neighbouring countries and far beyond, whom they think is a form of corruption hidden in the paycheck. Karma has it, that Mahathir is now back to haunt the Lee family, just as PM Lee is about to retire as PM and enjoy his loot, while still collecting millions from taxpayers as a non-functional Minister Mentor or Emeritus Minister or whatever title he decides to give himself.

Banyan once argued that the ruling People’s Action Party (pap), with 82 out of 89 elected parliamentary seats, had maintained its uninterrupted rule since 1959 not only by governing competently, but also through gerrymandering, harassing opposition figures, cowing the media, threatening spending cuts in districts that vote against it and “inculcating the absurd notion that its survival and that of Singapore itself are synonymous”.

The high commissioner duly responded: Singaporeans vote for the pap “because it continues to deliver them good government, stability and progress”. One reader promptly called out the “delicious irony”: surely such claims are for the pap to make, not “the ambassador who represents the very state she insists is not synonymous with its ruling party.”

This column returns to the one-party theme, because years of speculation over who the next prime minister of Singapore will be would appear to have been settled. Lee Hsien Loong, eldest child of Singapore’s late independence leader, Lee Kuan Yew, has run the country since 2004. But he will step down ahead of his 70th birthday in 2022.

Never say that Singapore is a hereditary state, like North Korea. The fact that Lee family members occupy high positions in state bodies has nothing to do with nepotism but with talent and selfless energies. Admittedly, Lee Kuan Yew occasionally allowed that superior genes might have something to do with it. But those genes are not flawless. Their inheritors have indulged in an unseemly family squabble, played out in social media, over the great man’s will. That may have tarnished the family somewhat in Singaporeans’ eyes. At any rate, there is no strong family candidate to take over the reins.

On November 23rd came news instead that Heng Swee Keat, the 57-year-old finance minister, will be Singapore’s next leader. The pap didn’t put it quite like that: it announced that he had been appointed its first assistant secretary-general. But media with ties to the government, such as the Straits Times, lost no time inferring it.

So comparisons with China may be more apt. Its Communist Party loves to send signals through appointments to obscure positions within its hierarchy. It refers to party “cadres”—just like the pap. It emphasises “collective” leadership, or did before the rise of Xi Jinping. And it talks in terms of “generations” of leaders since “new” China’s founding in 1949: Mr Xi is of the fifth. Mr Heng’s elevation was supposedly a collective decision of the pap’s “4g” (fourth-generation) cadres. No intra-party democracy there.

Another parallel: for all the talk of a new generation taking over, the oldies never fade away. For 21 years after stepping down as prime minister, Lee Kuan Yew remained in the cabinet. And years ago Lee set up Mr Heng by saying that his bright former private secretary was destined for greatness. Deng Xiaoping also ruled from beyond the grave. Well before his death in 1997, he had picked out Hu Jintao, Mr Xi’s predecessor, who held power from 2002 to 2012.

The late Mr Lee’s only regret was that Mr Heng, at around five feet six inches, “is not of a big bulk, which makes a difference in a mass rally”. But then the pap loves a technocrat. Mr Heng, who has run the education ministry and the central bank, is nothing if not that.

Popular sentiment also surely counts. Singaporeans like Mr Heng’s soft-spoken humility, and sympathise over a stroke he suffered two years ago. Ad nauseam, the Straits Times and others praise his propensity to “listen”. That has come to matter since the pap’s poor electoral showing in 2011 suggested it had lost touch with ordinary Singaporeans.

A second assistant secretary-general was also appointed: the trade minister, Chan Chun Sing. A scrappy politician, you can imagine him thriving in any full-throated democratic system, unlike Mr Heng. He makes much of his humble origins and subsequent success, including scholarships and a brilliant army career. That grates on many Singaporeans, but there is no denying his ambition. And so, a final parallel with the Chinese Communist Party: might a populist challenge upset succession plans, just as Bo Xilai’s dramatic bid nearly did for Mr Xi in 2012? Best to leave any speculation about that to the high commissioner.

---------------------------------------------------------

Singapore’s ruling People’s Action Party (PAP) will likely name Finance Minister Heng Swee Keat as its first assistant secretary general, local media said on Thursday, indicating the 57-year-old career public servant is poised to become the city state’s next prime minister.

Following party polls on November 11, the PAP is expected to announce a new line-up of its top leadership on Friday that will provide the firmest indication on who will succeed 66-year-old Lee Hsien Loong.

Insiders and observers have said the person who is made first assistant secretary general – a position traditionally held by a deputy prime minister – will succeed Lee as the country’s fourth prime minister.

Lee, son of the country’s founding prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, has been in power since 2004 after he succeeded Goh Chok Tong. Following a general election in 2015, Lee said he planned to step down before he turns 70.

The local Chinese daily Lianhe Zaobao reported “there are indications” Heng will be handed the first assistant secretary general position, while trade and industry minister Chan Chun Sing will likely be made the second assistant secretary general.

The Today newspaper, meanwhile, quoted a senior party leader as saying Heng was chosen because he could “rally the ground”.

Both men are part of the PAP’s “4G leadership” – referring to the younger generation of leaders in the party – who won spots in the party’s top decision-making body in the internal polls.

Separately, a source told This Week in Asia the 4G leaders recently held a meeting where they unanimously resolved that Heng, formerly a central banker, would be made “first among equals”.

The PAP, in power since 1959, has a selection process for the prime ministership that observers say resembles the way cardinals pick a pope. The sitting premier stays out of the succession process, and gives that responsibility to younger ministers who choose one among themselves as the first among equals.

Chan, viewed previously by some in the local commentariat as a top contender for the job, in a forum on Thursday said the city state’s leadership model “is stronger than a sum of individual parts”.

“Countries that do well, are those that are fortunate enough not just to have good individuals but to have a strong team,” Chan said. “A strong team that puts aside the individual interest but for the collective aspirations for the country.

“In Singapore, we are proud to say that for the last 53 years, we have been able to find … leadership teams that have been able to abide by this DNA and this set of ethos. And I think the younger generation of leaders are similarly focused on it.

Eugene Tan, a local political observer, said “it would not be too much of a surprise” that Heng was picked by his peers to lead them.

Heng was the managing director of the Monetary Authority of Singapore (MAS) from 2005 to 2011 and also served a stint as the principal private secretary to Lee Kuan Yew -– a coveted position in the Singaporean bureaucracy.

Upon Heng’s political entry in 2011, Prime Minister Lee immediately made him education minister. He was made finance minister after the 2015 polls.

He suffered a stroke in 2016 which temporarily halted his quick political rise, but swiftly returned to the political front lines after a full recovery.

“Mr Heng brings to bear an entire career in the public sector and with that a nuanced understanding of how the government works,” said Tan, a law professor at the Singapore Management University.

“As managing director of MAS, he played a pivotal role in Singapore managing the global financial crisis of 2008-09. He is likeable and unassuming too,” Tan said..

Too much power in the hands of too few is dangerous for the future of Singapore it could end up with what we have seen in Malaysia where the new leader equipped with so much power that when they abused the system and embezzled the country's resources there is no alternate power to stop them other than through the electorate.

In Singapore the electorate is very much controlled by the ruling party via gerrymandering of the electoral boundaries and GRC system and tweaking of the Constitution which makes it impossible to remove future leader who has turn into a rogue or a tyrant. Hence any plundering of Singapore by rogue could only be stopped by external power like what we see in Libya under Gaddafi and Iraq under Saddam Hussein.

Also in Singapore where the husband and wife team also control the sovereign funds of the country in privatized corporations. The future leader will have total and private control over the funds of the country as well without anyone able to check on them. So any abuse and corruption will be impossible to be detected and no chance to be investigated. It will be a replay of the Najib story filled with murders, hidden extravagance, crony judiciary, and ever rising burdens on the people.

While things are looking rosy for Singapore today but that cannot be said of the future. In fact looking at the crop of new leaders it looks bleak indeed. Most of them are from the army and none of them are financially savvy. Running the country's financial is very different from running your own finance. So they will most likely end up running it and using it, like their own money.

Historically we have seen how the second generation of leaders showed signs of things to come by raising their salaries to exorbitant level never seen before in world history. Fortunately LKY was still around to prevent any massive abuse. But he is gone now and we have seen how his son betrayed him in the 38 Oxley Road saga within the first year of his death. Our hard earned reserves are as cold as ice now. For the ordinary folks, anyway, they will never get to touch these money in their lifetime.

Emigration is a good choice if you're thinking of your future generations. Many have done that, including the siblings and descendants of the Lee family.

The daughter-in-law of a former town council general manager on trial for corruption was paid a fair wage, said the woman who had interviewed her for a job as she took the witness stand on Friday (Nov 23).

The prosecution alleged that the daughter-in-law, Stella Le Thi Hien, was given the job as a form of bribery.

She worked for sub-contractor 4-Ever Engineering between March and July 2016.

Her salary, however, was allegedly paid by 19-NS2, a company owned by Chia Sin Lan, who is accused of bribing former Ang Mo Kio Town Council (AMKTC) general manager Victor Wong Chee Meng in return for contracts. Wong is Ms Le’s father-in-law.

On Friday, the woman who interviewed Ms Le for the job, Ms Goo Pei Koon, described how she first found out that Ms Le was joining the team.

"Boss told me he would be hiring a new girl to help me ... I told my colleague Lee Hui Ting and we had an interview. Both of us interviewed Ms Stella,” Ms Goo said.

She told the court how they hired Ms Le "and tried to give her a chance to learn", at a salary of S$1,600 a month, with a role in administration.

The prosecution showed the court an application form where there was an amendment to the salary, changing it from an original S$1,800 to S$1,600.

Asked why the amendment was made, Ms Goo said it was because she felt that Ms Le was inexperienced. She later explained when cross-examined by the defence that S$1,600 was the same figure her colleague Ms Lee had received when she first joined the company with no experience.

When asked by defence lawyer Melanie Ho, who represents Wong, if the S$1,600 salary was fair, Ms Goo said it was.

The court also heard about how Ms Le’s salary was paid.

The arrangement to pay her in a roundabout way was Chia’s idea, the prosecution’s prime witness Mr Tay Eng Chuan had said previously during the trial, as it would be “too obvious” if Ms Le had worked for 19-ANC as she had supposedly requested. 19-ANC is another of Chia’s companies.

When questioned by the prosecution about the salary payments, Ms Goo said the boss of 4-Ever Engineering, Mr Ngoi Fook Kong, gave her cash when it was close to pay day and she distributed the cash to all employees, including Ms Le.

Ms Goo explained that she took photos of Ms Le's salary vouchers and sent them to Mr Tay on her boss' instructions.

Mr Tay had told the court that he was instructed by Chia to give Ms Le's monthly salary in cash to Mr Ngoi, who had initially not wanted Ms Le to work for him as they did not need an extra worker.

According to Ms Goo, Ms Le left the company after an argument with her colleagues and she did not see her thereafter.

Earlier, Mr Ngoi himself took the stand and told the court that Mr Tay had approached him to see if he could provide employment for the daughter-in-law of a friend.

He said he agreed to hire Ms Le when Mr Tay said he would provide the salary while Mr Ngoi's firm trained her.

"Would I be right to say at that time when you finally agreed, in your mind, you were helping Mr Tay?" asked defence lawyer Michael Loh, who acts for Chia.

"Yes," Mr Ngoi answered.

Mr Loh had charged a day before that Mr Tay was the one masterminding illegal transactions that funded the alleged bribes, and that he was not acting on Chia's instructions as he claimed.

The third tranche of the trial begins in March, when Wong's China mistress is expected to take the stand.

A subcontractor tried to back out from a company whose director is accused of bribing Ang Mo Kio Town Council's (AMKTC) former manager, but was met with anger and a threat, he said in court on Wednesday (Nov 14).

Troubled by the "dirty" dealings, Mr Tay Eng Chuan decided to withdraw his shares from 19-NS2 Enterprise, a company owned by director Chia Sin Lan which handled repair and redecoration works for town councils.

Chia is accused of giving former AMKTC general manager Victor Wong Chee Meng about S$107,000 in gratification between December 2014 and September 2016 in return for contracts.

Mr Tay, who worked for Chia, sent a message to Chia in early August 2016, telling him that "there is no meaning to it, I have decided to withdraw my shares, now, you should honestly return my share price to me".

Deputy Public Prosecutor Jiang Ke-Yue asked Mr Tay on the witness stand on Wednesday what he meant by "there was no meaning to it".

Mr Tay said several complications had arisen in the dealings involving Wong, which he had provided details of in his testimony on Tuesday.

READ: Witness describes his increasing discomfort over ‘dishonest’ dealings

These were "related to bribery" and differed from the "original principles when we founded the company, and business morals", Mr Tay explained, and he felt it was better for him to withdraw his shares. He had already withdrawn his directorship at the company earlier that year.

However, Chia was angry. He sent Mr Tay a photo of a debit card and a phone SIM card.

"I am very angry, invite you go drink coffee," he wrote in Chinese. He then called Mr Tay "xiao ren", which literally translates to "small person" but is used as a pejorative term meaning scoundrel or villain.

READ: I told director remitting money to former town council GM's mistress was 'risky', says witness

Explaining the messages, Mr Tay said the debit card shown was the one Chia allegedly used to entertain Wong. It was in Mr Tay's company's name, and Mr Tay had signed up for it on Chia's request, believing Chia wanted to use it for his own mistress and girlfriend.

The SIM card was also an item Chia asked Mr Tay to help him buy so his family would not find out about his affairs. Mr Tay had asked his foreman to sign up for the SIM card.

Mr Tay said "drink coffee" was a reference to the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).

"He's telling me he will use this debit card and this handphone SIM card to report me to CPIB," Mr Tay explained.

DEFENCE ASSERTS THAT LUNCHES WERE AMONG FRIENDS

After this, the defence began its cross-examination of Mr Tay, who is a witness for the prosecution.

Defence counsel Melanie Ho, who acts for Wong, asked Mr Tay if he knew about instances when Wong supposedly footed the bill.

The prosecution alleges that Chia paid for meals, karaoke lounge visits and hotel stays as a form of bribery, but the defence said in their opening statement that these expenses were shared among friends, who took turns to pay.

She asked Mr Tay if he was aware that for a trip to a karaoke lounge in 2016, Wong was the one who paid for the drinks and the room. Wong had also paid for the hotel rooms of Chia, Chia's girlfriend and Chia's China supplier David Gan during a trip to China, she claimed.

To both questions, Mr Tay answered that he did not know.

Ms Ho also asked a series of questions that showed Mr Tay's friendly relationship with Wong.

Mr Tay admitted in response to Ms Ho's questioning that he had gone for lunches with Wong and another business associate. He had said earlier during the course of the trial that he had lunch with Wong only occasionally.

He also admitted that he had visited Wong two days in a row when Wong was in hospital. He had also sent Wong a message which said to let him know if he needed anything.

The defence resumes its cross-examination of Mr Tay on Thursday.

I refer to the article “CPIB probes Ang Mo Kio Town Council’s general manager” (http://theindependent.sg/cpib-probes-amk-town-councils-general-manager).

It states that “a general manager and secretary of Ang Mo Kio Town Council is under investigation by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB) for “the way he handles contracts and dealings in the town council”. The general manager and secretary, Mr Victor Wong (picture), works for CPG Facilities Management. He has been put on forced leave.”
Conflict of interest?

Isn’t it a conflict of interest for an employee of the town council’s managing agent to be also the general manager and secretary of the town council?

After reading the subject news article – as a resident of Aljunied town council – I googled “aljunied town council conflict of interest secretary managing agent” and found the following:-

Same conflicts of interest flagged by Aljunied’s auditor?

“These were among several improper payments that the town council made to managing agent FM Solutions and Services (FMSS) and service provider FM Solutions and Integrated Services (FMSI), said KPMG.

Such improper payments were made in a situation where there were “control failures” and conflicts of interest, as the shareholders of the two companies were holding key management positions in the town council.

These include a failure to address serious conflicts of interest and a lack of meaningful oversight by town councillors, it added.

KPMG identified six FMSS shareholders who held key management posts in AHTC, such as secretary, general manager, and finance manager – creating a conflict of interest” (“AHTC failed to address conflicts of interest, says independent auditor KPMG” (Straits Times, Nov 7).

Why same conflict of interest in Ang Mo Kio?

In view of the the independent auditor, KPMG’s report on Aljunied town council regarding “serious conflicts of interest” – why do we have similar conflicts of interest in Ang Mo Kio town council?

Other town councils also have conflicts of interest?

Are there such conflicts of interest in the other town councils as well?

No action, talk only (NATO (about others))?

If so, what actions have such town councils taken, given that KPMG flagged such “serious conflicts of interest” in town councils?

For how long already?

How long have these conflicts of interest been going on?

GM replacement also same conflict of interest?

The Town Council has appointed another employee of CPG, Mr Lim Kian Chiong, as an acting general manager of the town council, but why are we still continuing to have such similar conflicts of interest?

Do town council councilors understand the meaning of “conflicts of interest”?

Mr Ang Hin Kee, MP for Ang Mo Kio GRC said, “if there are declarations to be made, if there are interests to declare, the people involved (must) make those declarations”. But do town councilors understand the meaning of “conflicts of interest”?

Mr Ang also assured residents that the MPs of the GRC do personally check on projects performed by its contractors to ensure oversight, but isn’t all these kind of superfluous when ‘serious conflicts of interest’ are already inherent and embedded in the town council system?
But don't you worry. I'm sure the CPIB will return a finding that there was 'no dishonesty' involved like what PA did in 2015 in the similar case of Tonic Oh, Chairman of the Admiralty ward of Sembawang GRC.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
The whole TC committee is in complicit with the conflict of interest. If they deny knowing or even think it's wrong, they are unfit to be in office to serve the people. I think CPIB should include them in their investigation. Then again, CPIB is under PMs control so again we see another conflict of interest. Corruption is pervasive.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Busy counting money no time to do own self check. Only when serious issue pops up then they say the law or policies outdated. Where's the passion to serve and what have they done other than raise costs of living for selfish reasons .. makes you now understand "own self check " is actually mean "being selfish ".
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. PAP should keep its own TCs in order before they watch over AHTC like a hawk and whack them over the slightest thing. And where are the HDB Ministers Khaw and Lawrence Wong who are usually full of motherhood statements?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
Same problem with the prime minister and his Wife on Temasek holdings. If that is not a conflict of interest then this is not?
"MPs of the GRC do personally check on projects performed by its contractors". Come on Mr Ang, you think we people as stupid as you?
If they had personally checked on projects as they now claimed, why didn't they detect these corrupted practices much earlier and reported the bugger themselves instead of waiting for a whistle blower to blow the matter out of the water?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
I am looking forward to a robust response from Shanmuggam and/or Khaw Boon Wan; the kind they give if the offence had ocurred in the opposition ward. Or will everyone act blur?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------

SOMETHING is rotten in the estate of Ang Mo Kio.

A general manager and secretary of the neighbourhood’s town council has been put on forced leave and is now under investigation by the Corrupt Practices Investigation Bureau (CPIB).

Mr Victor Wong works for CPG Facilities Management, the managing agent of the town council, which is helmed by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong. No details were given of the case, but the town council’s chairman Ang Hin Kee told The Straits Times (ST) yesterday (Dec 29) that a complaint was made against Mr Wong in September. Mr Wong was removed from his duties last month.

As to nature of the complaint, Mr Ang, who is also a Member of Parliament for Ang Mo Kio GRC, said it had to do with “the way he handles contracts and dealings in the town council”, reported ST.

The complaint “arose out of his dealings which relates to probable behaviour needing investigation done by CPIB”, he said. “Needless to say, the town council ourselves will render all assistance needed to ensure zero tolerance for corruption.”

“We will render all assistance needed to ensure zero tolerance for corruption.”
What exactly are we talking about here?

Clues from Mr Ang’s brief interview with ST point to contracts being handled by Mr Wong and potential conflicts of interests which were possibly undeclared.

Mr Ang declined to give any more details of the investigation, but said that town council staff are constantly reminded to declare any interests concerning tenders being awarded by the council, said ST.

He also said that staff from the managing agent were also reminded that “if there are declarations to be made, if there are interests to declare, the people involved (must) make those declarations”.

Meanwhile, an acting general manager, Mr Lim Kian Chiong, has been asked to replace Mr Wong, who could not be reached for comment yesterday. Mr Lim is also an employee of CPG.

I understand workers party need a lot of help now. Without them, my girl will not be as what she is now. Had bought her to rallies since 2011 till 2016. Since then, she start to understand there are a lot of people fighting for what is right... Her idol like Sylvia slowly build up.

During 2016 elections time, when she walked passed her kindergarten with some PAP candidates and volunteers inside, she shouted Workers Party without even any adult instructions.

I had edit this post to express my feeling and experience instead of auctioning out the tee in order not for the white to make issue to WP.

Having some feedback from people who post here like. Why I go brainwash my daughter especially? Kid slave and stuffs.
Let me so a little explanations why this post come out.

I came from a not so well being family of 6 squeezing in a 3 room flat in hougang. We use to support PAP very long ago. During that time, who will bother the neighbourhood like a trash as long as got shelter. Who will bother the block you stay in algae all over. Who will bother to complain Town Council for it back then. However a simple action totally change my parents mind not to continue to vote them in. During that time, all four of us were studying and due to 1 payment of TC was delayed, The TC immediately send a lawyer letter to pay with no negotiation.

I still remember I followed my dad to Mr Low 1st rally that hold in a small stage in between of block 320plus carpark. Even though you may say, what a young boy know but definitely it never go away from my memory. After Mr Low won hougang, my dad volunteer to help him. On events, attend wakes and look out for neighbourhood area. Mr Low always will take care of everyone in need even you never ask, he will come to ask you first. As years goes by, I was greatly inspired by Mr Low. Putting his fullest effort to make my neighbourhood clean and presentable.

Due to age, my father got to end his service for WP. However that don't stop Mr Low keeping a look out for my father. During 2006 election, I step up the same footsteps my father did. I help out everything in hougang. During 2 temple tour when I already married and got my daughter, Caitlyn. I still can remember I brought my wife and daughter along. I even carry my sleeping child in a sarong. Many uncles and aunty given me a thumbs up that motivated me and I do not feel tired that day.

In the year Feb 2017, my dad passed on. MP Png came for my father's wake. And to my surprise, old friend of my father came too. It's Mr Low. So in conclusion, does that mean politics is all about winning in life and to use underhand way to win it or to win your people trust for better living by true humanity? You decide. Choice is for my daughter what she wants. But once she did told me, she want to be like Sylvia and Daddy. To help people and to make people happy. You never too young to help and believe what is best for Our future.

Now in case you are wondering why this little girl wants to help the Workers Party so much is because of this.......(from the WP site ingoodfaith.blog)

<div style="box-sizing: inherit; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; padding: 0px 0px 1.5em;">
We are facing two civil law suits in the High Court. One suit is being brought by Aljunied-Hougang Town Council (AHTC), directed by an Independent Panel (Philip Jeyaretnam S.C., N. Sreenivasan S.C. and Ong Pang Thye) appointed under the Town Councils Act. The other suit is brought by Pasir Ris-Punggol Town Council (PRPTC).

<div style="box-sizing: inherit; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; padding: 0px 0px 1.5em;">
Both suits allege that we and two other town councillors failed in our duties managing AHTC, and are liable to pay monies to AHTC and PRPTC. The total sum claimed against us is potentially more than $30 million, even though we are not accused of receiving any of these monies personally.

<div style="box-sizing: inherit; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; padding: 0px 0px 1.5em;">
The claims against us are unfounded. We have acted in good faith, and did what we believed to be in the best interests of our residents and the Town Council. We have mounted rigorous defences in the two suits, and engaged a legal team from M/s Tan Rajah & Cheah.

<div style="box-sizing: inherit; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; padding: 0px 0px 1.5em;">
We will fight the claims vigorously. If we lose the suits and are adjudged to pay large sums of money, and are unable to pay, we would face bankruptcy.

<div style="box-sizing: inherit; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; padding: 0px 0px 1.5em;">
Since the suits commenced, the three of us have funded the legal expenses, using our personal savings and contributions from friends. We have not used any funds from the Workers’ Party. The total we have paid to our own lawyers to date is close to $600,000, covering the work done before the trial. The costs incurred so far have depleted our personal resources.

<div style="box-sizing: inherit; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; padding: 0px 0px 1.5em;">
We need financial resources to fight the legal battle and to deal with the prospect of being made a bankrupt.

<div style="box-sizing: inherit; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; padding: 0px 0px 1.5em;">
We now appeal to the public for financial support.

<div style="box-sizing: inherit; font-family: Lato, "Helvetica Neue", Helvetica, Arial, sans-serif; font-size: 17px; padding: 0px 0px 1.5em;">
Thank you for your support. Every contribution, large and small, counts.
