Is The Annual NDR Speech Still Necessary?

According to Wikipedia, the definition of the Singapore National Day Rally is.....

"The National Day Rally (Chinese: 国庆群众大会, Malay: Rapat Umum Hari Kebangsaan) is an annual address that the Prime Minister of Singapore makes to the entire nation, on the second Sunday after 9 August, the country's National Day.

A yearly event since 1966, the Prime Minister uses this rally to address the nation on its key challenges and its future directions, and can be compared to the State of the Union Address delivered by the President of the United States.

Prior to 2005, the rally was a continuous speech from 8:00pm (SST). From 2005, the Malay and Chinese versions were delivered at 6:45 pm with a break at 7:30 pm while the English version was delivered at 8:00pm. Opposition MPs were invited to the rally for the first time in 2007. "

The First National Day Rally 1966

Unlike the State of Union Address, which is delivered in January and not linked to Independence Day, the NDR was traditionally a PAP annual celebration of their triumphs and successes, and LKY has unapologetically treated it as a perpetual annual Election Rally to drive fear into the hearts of Singaporeans of not voting the PAP, and to remind them of their indebtedness to the PAP. It was only in recent years that opposition MPs were invited following the increase in number of oppositions in Parliament.

NDR 1984

During those days, Parliamentary proceedings were not broadcasted, live or same day. Hence the NDR became important as a tool of communication with the public. But it is no longer true now. All things said and done in Parliament are well-documented and recorded and goes viral very quickly for any incidence that occurred.

The Prime Minister should make full use of the Parliamentary seatings to address the nation on his plans and future direction, and not hold them back until the NDR before presenting them.

Besides the NDR, the Prime Minister also make speeches on eve of New Year, Deepavali, Hari Raya, Christmas and Lunar New Year. There are more than enough opportunities for him to share with the people on his plans and changes he wants to implement. Why wait for the NDR to do that?

Further, the NDR occurs more than a week after the National Day, making it an anti-climax to the ND celebration itself. It shouldn't be called NDR in the first place. It is just an irrelevant event, a baggage from the past, that should be removed from the calendar.

LKY last NDR Speech 1990

Of course, for the PM, it is a great opportunity for the him to showcase his multi-linguistic talents, polish his public speaking skills as well as his clowning and acting abilities. But looking ahead, he should be planning for his successor.

Can you find anyone in the audience during this year's speech, who can speak in several languages? None. So who is going to carry on with the NDR if PM Lee were to faint again, but this time, he can't return to complete his speech? Or worse, he got taken out by the IS terrorists. It can happen.

Goh Chok Tong Final NDR Speech 2004

No matter how you look at it, the NDR belonged to the legacy of the Lee Kuan Yew era. The NDR was a very powerful tool to unite a newly independent multiracial society, and to build the nation from scratch, during those early years. Now that it is redundant, we should just leave it in the archives of the museum.

This will also free PM Lee from the strenuous task of preparing for the NDR, and save the costs of employing the many language experts, and countless other backend contributors to his NDR speech. He can spend those precious time in planning his strategy to stifle the oppositions and writing computer programs to solve more puzzles.

Tony Tan's Relation With Lee Kuan Yew

A bunch of relatives and lackies
PAP is one of most corrupt party in the world. One sees many elected officers of PAP as well as top civil servant are relative of one another.

Family of Shylock
Kwa Siew Tee is Lee Kuan Yew's father-in-law. Lee Kuan Yew's mother-in-law, Wee Yew Neo and Bankster Tan Chin Tuan 's wife, Helen Wee are sisters. So Tan Chin Tuan is LKY's uncle-in-law. Tony Tan is Tan Chin Tuan's nephew.

Both Kwa Siew Tee and Tan Chin Tuan were top banksters of OCBC. The financialization of Singapore's economy whereby banksters parasite feed on the productive citizen can easily be understood -- if one is aware how deeply Lee Kuan Yew is connected with shylock.

Tony Tan the best actor
In public, Tony Tan shows himself as a humble and wise man. Unfortunately nothing is further from truth. Nothing good can be expected from scion of bankster. While Singaporean focus on Ho Ching and her Temasek fiasco, few people knew that GIC under the charge of Tony Tan has lost its pants in 2008 crisis.

In short, Tony Tan has blown up Singapore's pension aka the corrupt CPF. He is responsible for condemning Singaporean to work till death because CPF is effectively being wipe out in real terms. (PAP is going to stealth default CPF)

BACK ROW: YAP PENG GEK (LEFT), KWA SIEW TEE (THIRD FROM LEFT), CHEW HOCK LEONG (SIXTH LEFT) AND MR TEO (RIGHT)

Powerful and Influencial Figure
Little known Kwa Siew Tee (柯守智), Kwa Geok Choo's (LKY wife) father was immensely rich and one of the most powerful man in Singapore. He had been appointed the Municipal Commissioner in 1947, and Public Service Commissioner in 1953. Both are extremely powerful position and in theory, held the power to appoint and dismiss top civil servants.

Forex Trader
Kwa was a senior bankster in OCBC doing things related to forex trading. Banksters do not produce anything, they simply feed on productive host economy. Wonder PAP's perpetual policy to increase asset price screwing the working class, is due to all these bankster relative.

Inter-marriage between powerful families
Kwa Siew Tee's wife Wee Yew Neo, is daughter of Wee Theam Seng, a senior OCBC Bankster.

Kwa Siew Tee's brother-in-law is Tan Chin Tuan, who married Helen Wee, another daughter of Wee Theam Seng.

[BBC definition: banker+gangster = bankster]
OCBC Alumni
OCBC influences on Singapore are comparable to Goldman Sachs on USA. A large disproportional number of powerful office holders are connected to OCBC. To name a few below.

Lee Kuan Yew PM
- father-in-law OCBC senior bankster

Yong Pung How Chief Justice
- 1976-1982 work in OCBC

Teo Chee Hean Deputy PM
- father Teo Cheng Guan OCBC chairman 1989-1991

Tony Tan Deputy PM
- family is one of OCBC founders

2nd Generation Kwa, many illustrious figures
2 out of 3 survivng sons of Kwa Siew Tee hold perm sec position and many of important appointments. One of the son-in-law was made minister in LKY's cabinet. The 3rd generation are less prominent in public office but do not under-estimate their hidden wealth and influences.

Sons
Kwa Soon Hock 柯顺福
-Died Young

Kwa Soon Lock 柯顺禄
-Killed by Japanese

柯顺寿
- no info

Kwa Soon Chuan 柯顺全
-Perm Sec and many other top appointments

Kwa Soon Bee 柯顺美
-Perm Sec and many other top appointments

Daughter
Kwa Geok Neo 柯玉娘
- no info (found almost no data, need help to confirm the existence of this person)

Kwa Geok Lan 柯玉兰
- married Yong Nyuk Lin 杨玉麟 who later became minister of various ministries

Kwa Geok Choo 柯玉芝
- married LKY, PM of Singapore

Kwa Geok Lian 柯玉莲
- married Earnest Lau, a school principal

Kwa Geok Eng 柯玉英
- no info

Kwa's family and LKY road to power
Without the Kwa family network of powerful families, it is questionable whether LKY can emerge as the leader of PAP in 1950s given then, there are many other extremely capable and charismatic leaders in the party. The nexus of Kwa family probably also helped LKY to win the trust of British, which handed over to him the control of security apparatus. That is the key LKY is able arrest his political opponents.

Lim Chin Siong vs Lee Kuan Yew: The true and shocking history

Lim Chin Siong vs Lee Kuan Yew: The true and shocking history
Sunday, 08 July 2007

It will forever change how you see Lee Kuan Yew and the PAP

Schools teach our children that Lee Kuan Yew heroically delivered Singapore from the evil clutches of the communists and gave us what we have today.

Whether such an assertion is historically accurate or not, the Government seems intent to seal this version in the annals of Singapore. When filmmaker, Mr Martyn See, released Zahari's 17 Years in which Mr Said Zahari talked about his 17-year detention, the Government promptly banned it.

It, it stated, "will not allow people who had posed a security threat to the country in the past to exploit the use of films to purvey a false and distorted portrayal of their past actions and detention by the government."

Top-secret documents held by the British Government, now declassified, reveal some jaw-dropping facts about Lee Kuan Yew and how he came to power.

When Lim Chin Siong, another of Lee Kuan Yew's prisoners, died in 1996, the PAP was equally anxious to make sure that Lim's portrayal as a revolutionary communist remained etched in the minds of the people.

In response to a tribute that the SDP had written about Lim, the PAP through then MP Dr Ow Chin Hock, said that the Barisan Sosialis (Socilaist Front), of which Lim was its leader, fought the Government in 1966 "on the streets, according to the teachings of Mao Zedong in the Cultural Revolution."

It was a bald-faced lie. Lim was already in prison under ISA detention in 1966 and could not have led his party in anything.

This, it seems, was not the only untruth that the PAP has been telling us.

For example, Dr Ow pointed out that Lim was not fighting for a democratic Singapore (the cheek) but a communist one. Lim would have turned Singapore into "Mao's China or Ho Chi Minh's Vietnam", the PAP insisted.

Besides, it was the Internal Security Council (ISC) under the command of the British and not the PAP Government, who ordered the arrest and detention of Lim and colleagues.

This was because there were only three PAP representatives on the ISC and they were "outnumbered" by the other four members on the Council, three British and one Malaysian.

Nothing could be more untrue.

Top-secret documents held by the British Government, now declassified, reveal some jaw-dropping facts about Lee Kuan Yew and how he came to power.

Two history scholars studied these papers and presented their findings in the book Comet In Our Sky (available at Select Books at the Tanglin Shopping Centre).

The first is Tim Harper who teaches Southeast Asian history and the history of the British empire at the University of Cambridge in London.

The second is Greg Poulgrain, a professor at Griffiths University in Australia who has been researching Southeast Asian history for more than 20 years.

This SDP feature presents a summary of Dr Harper's and Dr Poulgrain's chapters. It contains some shocking archival material.

It also attempts to answer questions like who were people like Lim Chin Siong and Said Zahari? Did they really pose a security threat to the country? Were they communists hell-bent on undermining constitutional/democratic means of governance in Singapore? Was it really the ISC that was responsible for their arrest and imprisonment? Most important, is the PAP's version of history based on fact?

Remember, this narration is not the SDP's rendition of events past. It is a collective summary of the research done by two historians.

To ensure that this present essay remains faithful to Professors Harper's and Poulgrain's works, quotes from the historians' chapters are used liberally.

Still, don't take our word for it. Get a copy of Comet In Our Sky and read for yourself the real history of the PAP and Barisan Sosialis.

Why bother?

But why is this important? Why should Lim Chin Siong, a man who died more than ten years ago and who led a party which is now defunct, be relevant to the world in which we now live?

Hard, historical facts are the greatest antidote to fear mongering by the state and to the use of national security as a bogey to suppress freedom and democracy.

Lim Chin Siong (right) and Lee Kuan Yew
First, because those events are part of our history, and history defines who we are as a people and, more important, shapes the way we plan our future.

The textbooks that the Ministry of Education writes for our kids are not history but rather fables, starring Mr Lee Kuan Yew. We have a duty to teach our youths the truth.

Also, what happened in the 1950s and 60s continue to be relevant because many of Lim's colleagues are still alive and the sacrifices they made for the independence of Singapore have been all but erased. Their stories must be told and their honour restored.

Third, and perhaps most important, not only is the PAP's cloroxed account used to mentally condition (brainwash, if you prefer) our children, it continues to be used as a weapon to intimidate and silence voices of dissent.

If Lee Kuan Yew can manipulate the security apparatus for his own political ends in the 1950s and 60 as you will note from Dr Harper's and Dr Poulgrain's revelations, what does that say about the present use of the ISD to detain other Singaporeans?

More ominously, what if the PAP feels sufficiently threatened politically and resorts to concocting another conspiracy to detain without trial more Singaporeans and opposition politicians like it did to a group of professionals in 1987?

Hard, historical facts are the greatest antidote to fear mongering by the state and to the use of national security as a bogey to suppress freedom and democracy.

Knowledgeable citizens with a keen sense of history are the best protection against acts of repression in the future.

Chan Chun Sing - Nephew of Lee Kuan Yew?

From theonlinecitizen:
The rumor that Chan Chun Sing is a distant relative of Lee Kuan Yew appears to be untrue based on this newsclipping from 1988.

Newspapers - Thanks, Mum

Thanks, Mum Chan Chun Sing, 19, one of four top scorers from Raffles Junior College, who had six distinctions, a distinction for the Mathematics S-Paper and a merit for the Economics S-Paper: "My mother is a machine-operator. I do not stay with my father became my parents are divorced."

If we do not ask question, and live in fear all the time, we will never find out the truth.

Saw that picture of him standing behind the Pm family which seemed to
show clearly that he was related to the PM by blood as the seats there
were for them of close family of the Lees.

Seriously, as Chan chun sing is minister; he is of public interest
now, and thus the Pm should be honest to explain it to the public
about his and family relationship with him .

Given that Chan chun sing's direct entry to appointments as minster
with only a acting minister post temporay to camouflage him to his
post, there should be explaination of his relationshions with the PM
on what interest he has with Chan and his family

And given that he was a direct backdoor entry candidate to get to the
public money of 2 million dollar minsterial pay per year job with
potential of 9 months bonus, the PM should explain his relationship to
the people on how his family was related with him..

And so, if Pm is honest and transparent and is true to himself to the
people of Singapore, he should come forward to explain publicly as to
who he is.

THe Pm should explain who is he related to him or family blood, and
why this man was chosen than of others equally qualified others
available in,the inside and outside of the pulbic sector and any
Singaporeans, etc

Is Major General Ki Chew (Chan Chun Sing) related to Lee Kuan Yew?

Over the Vesak Day holidays, an intriguing picture of MG Ki Chew has emerged ( http://imageshack.us/photo/my-images/849/unledaic.png ). At the recent funeral of Mrs Lee, he was seen standing at a place normally reserved for close family members (cousins, uncles, nephews etc).

Scroll down to 1/3 of the page and you will see Chan Chun Sing among the
close family of Lee Kuan Yew mourning behind the coffin of Mrs. Lee Kuan
Yew:
http://singstatistician.blogspot.com/2011_05_01_archive.html

So who exactly is MG Ki Chew? Could he be the next Prime Minister of Singapore?

Shortly after I published this posting, the Cabinet line up was released. MG Ki Chew is off to a flying start. He is the new Acting Minister for MCYS. In getting this position, he bypassed at least 2 PAP hopefuls who were eyeing the seat.

LOL!!! At 88 years old, and SEEN to be in need of physical assistance,
the old man may turned out tol be our 3rd President to die in office.
His Presidency may even be the shortest, who knows?

In the meantime, his crown prince will face another backlash from the
peasants, in the form of another 8% percentage drop in votes in 2016.

Actually, this is the best solution.

When he becomes the President, he will hold the second key to the
reserves. Then he will bring it along to his grave for safe keeping.
That way, no one will be able to touch the reserves and it will be
safe.

This fulfills his pledge that even when he dies, he will "rise up" to
defend what he had built up over the years. PM Lee is so right to say
that MM is MM, he will never change.

Lee Kuan Yew and Goh Chok Tong - confirmed to retire from Cabinet

MT3 wrote:
They have completely destroyed our trust in them. What took them so long to realise that their policies only stratify society. Only two classes exists ... the haves and the have nots.

This inevitably leads to the "politics of envy" which MM mentioned decades ago that Singapore must avoid. If this prevails, then chaos will result. This is the price we pay for their "arrogance" and refusal to listen.

The resentment is across many levels of society and may get entrenched deeper. This is the turn of events, if nothing is done.

Evolving out of this will be a transformation and renewal of the way the incumbents go about their business, which cannot be "business as usual". The era of the one party state is slowly dying and there is now, a new beginning.

The resolve to work towards a "two party system" and a first world parliament, will only get stronger and as of now, is not a sure conclusion.

There must be continued vigilance and there must be alternative voices in parliament.

A slower GDP growth will result and whats wrong with that, if there is stability, no civil disobedience and mutual respect.

All the brothers and sisters here, who helped in the dissemination of information can now pat themselves on their back.

This is round one.

An End To A Major Source of Moral Corruption.

This will at least prevent them from helping the Workers Party to win more seats with their racist comments and silly remarks on Ting Pei Ling, in the next election.

These two oldies are not only a burden to the PAP, they are also a symbol of the moral corruption currently being practised in the cabinet. They are collecting pensions like pensioners, but are also receiving salaries and allowances in whatever names they may choose call it.

And I have not mentioned the exorbitant salaries of all the ministers yet. All of them earning 3 to 5 times the salary of an over-worked and over-stressed American President, who is the next highest paid head of state outside of Singapore.

By the way, even if they are not in the cabinet, it doesn't mean they have no influence over the decision-making process. It just become less transparent, that's all.

SINGAPORE : Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew on Saturday said they have decided to leave the Cabinet for Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and his team to have a fresh clean slate.

In a joint statement, they said: "We have studied the new political situation and thought how it can affect the future. We have made our contributions to the development of Singapore. The time has come for a younger generation to carry Singapore forward in a more difficult and complex situation.

"The Prime Minister and his team of younger leaders should have a fresh clean slate. A younger generation, besides having a non-corrupt and meritocratic government and a high standard of living, wants to be more engaged in the decisions which affect them.

"After a watershed General Election, we have decided to leave the Cabinet and have a completely younger team of ministers to connect to and engage with this young generation in shaping the future of our Singapore.

"But the younger team must always have in mind the interests of the older generation. This generation who has contributed to Singapore must be well-looked after."

Quote:
SINGAPORE's Prime Minister, Lee Hsien Loong, said he has not yet decided whether to accept Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew and Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong's resignations from the Cabinet.

But it is likely he will give his answer by Monday, local media reported. MM Lee and SM Goh announced their decision to retire on Saturday.

PM Lee said the move was initiated by the two leaders themselves but he had already known about it. He said the decision by the two former Prime Ministers to retire was a "major event" for Singapore which would affect his new Cabinet line-up.

Speaking after a post-election victory parade on Saturday, PM Lee said the decision to retire "shows that they are thinking of Singapore and for the future of Singapore."

He added, "The basic consideration is what is the best approach for forming a team which would be most effective in solving problems and establishing rapport and trust with the people going forward for the next five years."

There is no doubt that LHL sacked GCT with the blessing of the old
fox. Probably even with the wily old fox's instruction. In order to
look good to the public, the old fox also "step down". Who is going to

taken as an insult to all Singaporeans.

The writing is already on the wall.... the PAP is in its Death throes.

MM Lee: We Need More Immigrants!

Singapore needs young immigrants to save its economy from long-term decline as a result of a falling birth rate, elder statesman Lee Kuan Yew said in remarks published Wednesday.

“At these low birth rates, we will rapidly age and shrink,” the 87-year-old Lee said in comments released to the local media after the government disclosed that the city-state’s birth rate fell to a record low in 2010.

“So we need young immigrants. Otherwise our economy will slow down, like the Japanese economy. We will have a less dynamic and less thriving Singapore. This is not the future for our children and grandchildren,” he said.

Lee’s defense of immigration came amid increasing criticism in web forums and local media directed at foreigners, who now make up more than 20% of the population of five million.

Most of the foreign workers and immigrants come from China, Southeast Asia and India, reflecting Singapore’s own ethnic mix.

Lee stepped down as prime minister in 1990 after leading the city-state since 1959, and he remains a powerful figure as an adviser to Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong.

Lee said immigrants should be welcomed and integrated.

"The first generation will take some time to integrate, but their children will be completely Singaporean," he said.

"They will increase our population and talent pool. Singapore will be vibrant and prosperous, not declining and aging," he said.

The resident fertility rate--or number of babies born per woman--dipped to 1.16 in 2010, down from the previous record low of 1.22 in 2009, Deputy Prime Minister Wong Kan Seng, who coordinates population policy, said Monday.

The rate, which has fallen as more couples choose to have just one child and more people opt to remain single, is well below the 2.1 babies per woman needed for the population to replenish itself naturally.

Singapore rolled out the welcome mat for foreign workers during the 2004-07 economic boom.

However, after the 2008 global financial crisis, the government took a fresh look following complaints from citizens that foreigners were increasingly competing for jobs, housing, medical care and even space on metro trains.

The inflow of foreign workers has slowed, and full citizens were given more social and other benefits over foreigners.

Lie Exposed - S'pore were never kicked out of Malaysia

Newsgroups: soc.culture.singapore, soc.culture.malaysia, soc.culture.china, soc.culture.hongkong
From: reborner
Subject: LKY Lied That Sg Were Kicked Out of Malaysia

I was too young to remember the time when Singapore separated from
Malaysia. All I know is that Lee Kuan Yew put up a good show crying
crocodile tears on TV.

According to LKY, the Tengku kicked us out. However, I have come
across other sources, which point that it was LKY who wanted out and
threatened the Tengku with the Chinese Race Card if he did not let
Singapore go. The Tengku relented.

That meeting happened in a place where there were only two people -
The Tengku and LKY himself. The Tengku has since passed away and that
leaves LKY to tell the world whatever (corrupted) version he wants to,
unchallenged.

Well, as you know, when you tell a lie, you have to tell another lie
to cover that lie. Then you have to tell yet another lie to cover that
one too. It carries on until you cannot remember what lies you told.

So, it finally had to happen. The pack of lies told to us, that we
were kicked out from Malaysia has finally collapsed. Here is an
article in the ST Forum, which touches on LKY's eulogy, which gave
away the fact that we were not kicked out, but instead, Singapore had
planned to leave all along.

MINISTER Mentor Lee Kuan Yew made an interestingly significant
remark about Singapore's separation from Malaysia in his eulogy at
Sunday's state funeral for his colleague-in-arms, former Deputy Prime
Minister Goh Keng Swee.

MM Lee said he had asked Dr Goh to negotiate a looser
rearrangement for Singapore, but to keep Singapore within Malaysia.

Added MM Lee: 'He (Dr Goh) decided that the best alternative was a
clean break. After (Malaysian Deputy Prime Minister) Tun Abdul Razak
and (Minister for External Affairs) Tun Dr Ismail Abdul Rahman agreed,
(Law Minister) Eddie Barker and I worked furiously to settle the terms
of the separation.'

MM Lee's remark is intriguing in the light of the conventional
narrative of the events leading up to Separation in 1965. From all
that historians have gleaned prior to MM Lee's remarks on Sunday, MM
Lee, who was then Prime Minister, played the pivotal role involving
Separation.

His remarks suggest that the decision to break away from Malaysia
was decided unilaterally by Dr Goh at the crucial moment; against the
proposition MM Lee, and perhaps the collective Cabinet, had decided;
which was at the very least, to still remain a part of the Malaysian
federation of states.

If the above is true, the apparent contradiction should be
resolved. A key question that arises from MM Lee's remarks is this:
What was the extent and significance of Dr Goh's role in Separation?
Furthermore, MM Lee's remark also suggests that the key Malaysian
leaders - Tun Razak and Dr Ismail - agreed to Dr Goh's proposal of a
clean break.

This would imply that it may well have been Singapore which
precipitated the idea of Separation, rather than Malaysia, as has been
the notion all this while, stemming from first Malaysian Prime
Minister Tunku Abdul Rahman's view. He reconfirmed, when I interviewed
him a few years before he died, that he overruled the strident
objections of his extremist colleagues in Umno in deciding to sack
Singapore from Malaysia.

It would be informative, if not instructive, if MM Lee or Dr Toh
Chin Chye (then chairman of the PAP and the only key surviving member
of the Old Guard today) shed more light on this critical turning point
in the history of Singapore and Malaysia.

Associate Professor Hussin Mutalib

I have always suspected that it was LKY who wanted Singapore out. I
never believed his claims that Singapore was "kicked out". While the
LKY's eulogy implies that it was Dr Goh's idea for separation, I still
believe that it was LKY's idea. After all, he has been known to fib
about history.

Besides the point that he misrepresented Singapore was kicked out, he
has also tried to cover up the fact that he was elected as Sec Gen of
PAP in the early days only by virtue of the Chairman's vote. It was a
tie between him and Ong Eng Guan for the post. Dr Toh casted the final
(Chairman's vote) for LKY. However, LKY tries to deny that did happen,
as can be seen in this article I wrote in Sep 2009

Old Man wants all the glory to himself

In the following article published in the Straits Times dated 5
Sep 09, Did Lee become PM by one vote?, Old Man claims he has no
knowledge of the one vital vote, casted by Dr Toh Chin Chye (the
Chairman of the PAP then), that allowed him to be the PM of Singapore.
It was a nail-biting 6-6 vote, casted by the "inner core" of the
pioneer PAP leaders. It was a tie between Ong Eng Guan and Lee Kuan
Yew.

Being a tie, the chairman, Dr Toh, exercised the chair's vote, and
Old Man became the PM.

But, Old Man, being what he is, does not want to admit it. He
denies that there was such an event. Phew! Now why did Old Man have to
wait for 50 years to say that? All along, it was written in the
history books that he won by the chair's vote.

In the same article, I mentioned how LKY probably planned the merger
in the first place, with the intention to leave the Federation later,
so that he could be the PM of Independent Singapore. It was a perfect
plan to oust his greatest rival then, Lim Chin Siong.

A search on the internet will also reveal a few startling things
about the history of Singapore. Here are some pointers.

Before independence, Chin Siong was Lee's biggest threat. While
Chin Siong controlled the Chinese ground, Lee had the favours of the
British government. But everything was hanging precariously and power
could swing to either side.

Lee then planned a merger with Malaysia. It appeared that the
merger was an excellent way to rid Chin Siong. Both the Brits and
Tengku were uncomfortable with Chin Siong because he appeared to be a
communist.

Till today, there is still controversy if he was communist. I
would be inclined to believe the Chin Siong sounded communist because
he used the Chinese race card to rally the people. (Hey, hasn't Old
Man used the same Chinese race card for decades too? And no one dares
claim he is a commie?)

I do not believe Chin Siong was a communist. The Brits (whom LKY
was very much aligned to) were only too keen to link Chin Siong with
the commies to contain him. With the merger planned, Lee had an
excellent excuse to get Chin Siong locked up since both the Brits and
Tengku did not like to have Chin Siong around.

You can do a search on "Lim Chin Siong" to get more news about the
Lim Chin Siong vs Lee Kuan Yew dispute. That was really something.

My opinion on the Lim vs Lee episode

It was either Lim Chin Siong or Lee Kuan Yew. The fight for power
to control was on the balance. While Lim used the Chinese ground for
his support, Lee used the Brits for his support. What probably tilted
the balance was the merger. Lee got the Tengku on his side too,
because the Tengku was wary of Lim as well.

After the threat of Lim was over, it was time for Lee to create
enough trouble for the Tengku, so that Singapore could be fully
independent. Lee's story was that the Tengku kicked Singapore out.
Tengku's story was that Lee wanted out and hence created problems.

So who is to be believed?

With the fact now exposed that Old Man is willing to twist history
about the single vote by Dr Toh Chin Chye, who knows what other facts
he has been twisting since the 1950s? After all, the Tengku is no
longer around to dispute the story.

My viewpoint on the merger

The merger probably served Lee very well. It was the perfect way
to rid of his biggest adversary, Chin Siong. At the same time, he
could engineer for Singapore's independence so that he could be the PM
of a truly independent Singapore.

It was not that Lee did not know that Malaysia's constitution
stated the special privileges for the Malays. He asked for the merger
with his eyes opened. Yet, after merging, he contested that very
special privilege. It is like asking your neighbour to invite you to a
party, then when he graciously lets you in, you start ordering him how
he should host the party.

The merger itself caused Malaysia to have problems with Indonesia
and Philippines. Malaysia's plan was to include Sabah, Sarawak and
Brunei. Singapore was initially NOT on the list. Singapore asked to be
invited and was accepted.

Indonesia and Philippines saw the merger as an expansionist plan
by Malaysia and felt threatened. This was the Confrontation period.
There were terror attacks from Indonesia against Malaysia. And
Singapore, being part of Malaysia by virtue of the merger, was also
attacked.

A point that I would like to make here is that, the PAP cites this
incident was that the "sea of Malays around us" seeked to attack the
majority Chinese Singaporeans.

I feel that Lee is trying to play the race card that Singapore
being majority Chinese, are seen as enemies by the Malays around us.
The fact was that this was actually about one Malay country
(Indonesia) against another Malay country (Malaysia). Singapore was
dragged in, because we were part of Malaysia. Not because the Malays
were against the Chinese.

The above is yet another twist and lie, in the books of the PAP,
headed by Old Man.

My Conclusion

Lee can claim that he is the "Father of Singapore" and that he is
the one behind Singapore's success. But we have seen how he twists
history, such that he is seen that he has attained a godlike status.

My opinion is that if Ong Eng Guan had been PM, he would have
taken Singapore the same path. Perhaps, we would see the Ong Dynasty
instead of the Lee Dynasty.

As for Lim Chin Siong, I also feel that if he had been Singapore's
PM, we would still be the same Singapore, more or less. Some critics
say that he was a communist and would steer away from Western
technology, which brought about Singapore's economic success.

I dispute the above. Firstly, it was never proven he was
communist. Secondly, if he had been PM, I am sure he would have
abandoned his reference to China, changed allies, and taken advantage
of the Western influence.

If Lee could have changed so quickly from let's merge with
Malaysia to let's create trouble for Malaysia, surely Chin Siong could
have changed his spots as quickly as Old Man.

Of course, also if Lim had been PM, in all probability, we would
have to tolerate the Lim Dynasty instead.

Singapore does not depend on one man alone. Singapore's success is
due to a group of hardworking leaders and citizens. The man at the top
is shaped by what the group of leaders and the community do. He is
dispensable.....no, he is expendable.

It looks as time goes on, LKY has difficulty in remembering the number
of lies he has told Singaporeans. For every slip up he makes about the
past, he reveals a ton of untold secrets about Singapore's, PAP's and
his own history.

The latest slip up to be exposed is of course, we were never kicked
out of Malaysia. It was planned by the Singapore side to use Malaysia
as a scapegoat to get independence from the Brits - and to lock Chin
Siong up, so that LKY could be PM of Independent Singapore.

Lee Kuan Yew and Kim Jong il - compared

From: "AleXX"
Subject: Can the present North Korean leader claims that he is the best person to rule his country?

Or is it because he has taken over from his dictator father?
Is there any country in South East Asia where a PM claimed himself to be the
best person to rule a country and not because of his father who was once a
strong-man-dictator-like ruler? Is he coincidently the best person to rule?

I notice that you used past tense ...when talk about LKY,
Thaksin and Mahathir.
I agree that they WERE good for their country.

Was Kim's father GOOD for N Korea ?

According to patriotic Koreans, he was definitely
good for Korea. They are proud to be a truly
independent country...unlike S Korea which
is a neo-colony of the USA.
They supported him...willing to suffer extreme
economic hardship...refusing to rebel against
him....refusing to kowtow to US sanctions.

Quite rightly, in Asia, because of them, their citizens are smart
enough to know that they have to work hard and fend for themselves
because the Govt cannot be relied upon. In advanced countries, like
America and EU, Australia, the Govts can be relied upon to take care
of their citizens.

Lee Kuan Yew suffers massive heart attack?

Singapore strongman 87 year old Lee Kuan Yew suffers massive heart attack
Ladies and Gentlemen,

According to latest reports received from Singapore a few minutes ago, the 87 year old Singapore strongman, Lee Kuan Yew, had suffered a massive heart attack at 9.34 pm yesterday Singapore time.

He is reported to be presently in the Intensive Care Cardiac Unit of the Singapore General Hospital under sedation and respiration, carefully watched by a team of doctors, with his son whom he appointed the Prime Minister and his 2 other children beside him.

It is understood his wife is also in the same hospital in a coma now for several years.

It is uncertain if he can recover at his age, and the pacemaker which he has in his heart is believed to have contributed to it.

According to reports, the pacemaker malfunctioned triggering this massive heart attack.

With the entire country run by this one man, the fear that business leaders and bankers had for very long may have finally come true; that such a happening can destroy the business confidence and cause total destruction in the small island city state.

The reason for the lack of confidence is due to the general lack of confidence in his son's, the prime minister's capacity to govern thereby creating a power vacuum with no single person able to assume control in the island.

In fact reports have been coming in that some investors have already started transferring their funds overseas creating a fear there could be a run on the banks.

There are reports that several top officials who have amassed fortunes under Lee Kuan Yew's patronage and connections have begun to have the jitters and started moving their funds overseas.

A few high ranking civil servants and judges who were responsible for human rights abuses against his political opponents have also been on alert ready to leave the island any minute.

Reports have also been coming in that peaceful protesters and demonstrators have begun assembling in small pockets at the Geylang and Mountbatten Road junction and the Orchard Road and Patterson Road junction holding placards
reading "Democracy" and "Down With the Dictator" and chanting slogans.

The situation is very fluid and I will be reporting on the situation as it unfolds. There have been numerous telephone calls to the Prime Ministers Office and the Singapore newspaper the Straits Times for information.

Lee Kuan Yew and Ong Beng Seng

From: "truth"
Subject: Lee Kuan Yew and Ong Beng Seng

It is now very clear that Lee Kuan Yew and Ong Beng Seng
are very close.

Way back in the 90's they are so close that Ong Beng Seng
gave $million discounts to the Lees for purcase of luxury
apartments in Scotts 28 and Nassim Jade. There was a huge
scandal. The Lees returned the discounts and parliament voted
to exonerate the Lees. What took place in the three meetings
between Lee Kuan Yew and then then PM Goh Chok Tong
we can only speculate on.

Now fast forward to the present. Lee Kuan Yew push really
hard for the F1 which were brought in by Ong Beng Seng. The
government subsidised this event which was priced to restrict
enjoyment to the rich locals and foreigners. Much inconveniences
were caused to those who worked and have businesses around
the circuit.

Now Lee Kuan Yew has been spotted being given a guilded
tour of the casino in Sentosa by Ong Beng Seng.
I don't like the smell of this whole development. Lee Kuan Yew
changed his position on the casino and pushed very hard to
have two casinos. What is going on behind the scene between
Lee Kuan Yew and Ong Beng Seng ?

Singaporeans with informations and photos of these two old
kakis please post them on the internet.

Interviews with MM Lee - More insults on Singaporeans by the MM

From: Cherry
Subject: Extracts of the interview with MM Lee

"Do you want to underpay a minister and you have the kind of
shenanigans as you have in the British Parliament? ..."

No one dares to question MM Lee of Singapore?
------------------------------------
Extracts of the interview with MM Lee
05:55 AM Jan 01, 2010

ON EATING OUT

Mr Jacobson: You have a favourite food hawker?

Mr Lee: Well, I can't go anymore because so many people want to shake
my hands and I become a distraction, I can't really get down to my
food.

Mr Jacobson: So can you have take-out?

Mr Lee: Well, that's not quite the same. I tend to go to restaurants
when I go out, and I try restaurants with a quiet corner where I can
sneak in and sneak out with my friends, and not have a crowd wanting
to shake hands with me.

ON PERCEPTION THAT HE IS STILL THE 'FACE OF THE COUNTRY'

Mr Lee: Well, no, that's a public perception which is not held by
those in the know. I mean, all the top executives know that they are
dealing with the ministers and the decisions are made by the
ministers. My job is really as a long-range radar to look out for
opportunities and for threats ... I cannot work at that old pace. I
can work with subjects that require contemplation time, which really
is backed up by my experience and my feel of how things will develop.

Mr Jacobson: Well, nobody knows Singapore better than you.

Mr Lee: I guess, supposing I had not intervened in the casino debate -
the religious groups fought tooth and nail to stop it and the Prime
Minister and his Cabinet were in a lot of trouble, so I stood up and
said 'look, I understand the views, I was of the same view but I'll
tell you the reason why I have changed my mind'. And that had a
calming effect ... Either you accept that this is part of today's
globalised world and you have F1 and all these glitzy events ... or
you are out of business. And in Singapore, if you are out of business,
you are out of food.

ON CASINOS

Mr Jacobson: Are you still morally opposed to them or does pragmatism
always take precedence in your thinking?

Mr Lee: Well, it is useless to resist when it is everywhere.

Mr Jacobson: Well, the fact that it's everywhere, maybe it is the
reason to resist.

Mr Lee: No, you cannot stop it. You want to cut off the Internet? You
want to cut off your cellphones? You want to cut off satellite TV?
Then you will become like Myanmar. It's not possible.

ON PEGGING MINISTERIAL PAY TO THE PRIVATE SECTOR

Mr Lee: (We) are always lagging behind because whenever there's a
downturn, we don't give the raise. Whenever there's an upturn, the
private sector shoots up suddenly and we can't keep pace because the
public says 'no, this is too much'.

Mr Jacobson: Well, when people are getting US$16 billion ($22.4
billion) bonuses for bringing the country into the ground, it is hard
to keep up.

Mr Lee: I was once asked about the ... best paid ministers in the
world. I said, you should look at the wives. The lowest-paid ministers
have wives who are glittering with jewels and with big mansions.

Mr Jacobson: So that means they are corrupt.

Mr Lee: No, I didn't say that ... So Singaporeans have to decide. Do
you want to underpay a minister and you have the kind of shenanigans
as you have in the British Parliament? You know, they repair their
homes in the country and in London, and charge it to their account.
Or, you pay them a proper wage and say after that, look after
everything. Nobody gets any special perks ... Official entertainment,
you have got an expense account ... Everything is above board and the
public knows that. So whatever they grumble, they know that they are
not being shortchanged.

Mr Jacobson: There are grumbles, but there are always grumbles.

Mr Lee: There must be. Singaporeans are champion grumblers.

Complete media blackout on MM Lee’s remarks against Singaporeans

Complete media blackout on MM Lee’s remarks in National Geographic magazine

The Singapore media has imposed a total media blackout on MM Lee’s remarks made in the National Geographic magazine on 20 December 2009.

Speaking to journalist Mark Jacobson on how he had governed Singapore, MM Lee said he is aware that “many Singaporeans are unhappy with the influx of immigrants, especially those educated newcomers prepared to fight for higher paying jobs.”

“Over time, Singaporeans have become less hard-driving and hard-striving. This is why it is a good thing that the nation has welcomed so many Chinese immigrants.” Lee was quoted saying.

Lee describes the country’s new subjects as “hungry,” with parents who “pushed the children very hard.”

“If native Singaporeans are falling behind because the spurs are not stuck into the hide, that is their problem,” he quipped.

After the Temasek Review has published a report on MM Lee’s interview on 24 December, a massive outcry broke out in cyberspace with many netizens expressing their disgust and outrage at his views.

Over 60 comments were posted on Temasek Review in one day alone, condemning MM Lee for his remarks. The issue was such a hot topic of discussion that it was even featured on “Top News”, an online aggregator.

Despite intense public interest in the story, it did not warrant even a brief mention in any of the Singapore papers, including the Chinese tabloids.

The Singapore media has always published any news about MM Lee faithfully, including his frequent overseas trips and numerous speeches made in Singapore and elsewhere.

For example, MM Lee’s recent visit to India was given extensive publicity by the Singapore media when it was hardly covered by the Indian press.

As the “foreign talent” issue is a burning hot topic of late among Singaporeans, the media has a duty to report MM Lee’s views on the matter to the rest of Singapore.

After all, though by his own admission, he is “not doing much work except forecasting”, he still appears in the news on a regular basis, more so than his son the Prime Minister.

Did the Singapore media miss the story or was it “under instructions” from some other authority not to publish MM Lee’s remarks?

In any other democracies like Japan, South Korea, Taiwan, Australia and Hong Kong, such callous remarks made by a prominent politician would be splashed on the front pages of most papers almost immediately.

The former Japanese Prime Minister Taro Aso often made the headlines for his infamous gaffes which helped swayed public opinion against him leading to his crushing defeat during the August general election this year.

In Singapore, the media is completely controlled by the ruling party via the Singapore Press Holdings, led by a former minister Dr Tony Tan.

News portraying government leaders in a bad light are censored while scandals involving opposition politicians are played up and given prominent coverage, e.g. the recent extradiction to U.S. of a Reform Party member on charges of arms-trafficking.

Without a free and independent press, it is little wonder that more than 90 per cent of Singaporeans inteviewed has faith in their leaders and public institutions, according to a report released by the United Nations Development Programme in September this year.

In the age of the internet, it remains to be seen how long more the Singapore media can afford to keep a lid on sensitive news as such without alienating their readers who are flocking to alternative news sites like Temasek Review.

Lao Lee is getting very complacent that Pappy will be voted into power every five years for the simple fact that there isn't a credible opposition party. We leave the major decisions to the party we elected so that we can lead a simple life. In exchange those in power can earn million dollars salary. How different is our govt from the Big Banks in US ? Giving big bonus to the bankers while the man on the street are begging and facing deliquency ? Haiz, sad state we are in.

Lee Kwan Yew: India not in the same league as China

From: RichAsianKid

2 Comments:

1. As if this is news (but hey what do you expect from some Indian
newspaper?)

2. LKY was actually pretty diplomatic (contrary to article's
interpretation) at first glance:

(a) China >> India is fact, and hysterically denied by dreary-eyed
Indians precisely because even their own know it's true

(b) "Culture" is merely euphemism for biology and genes as it offers a
last ray of hope of mutability. But you can't say THAT as a statesman
can you? What's the point of politics if things can't change? And what
happens when those poor little low IQ peoples wake up tasting futility
and recognize they got nothing to lose.....in Singapore?

Still....
I can also see why LKY can also be seen as not diplomatic enough.

Read between the lines and what he's hinting at what he's really saying
is how Indians are not only stupid but also lazy and don't
follow-through. Maybe they just don't have the mental stamina or whatever.

And "culture" is merely an excuse, and political device.

For Singapore's father, India not in the same league as China
Sreejiraj Eluvangal / DNA
Thursday, December 17, 2009 3:22 IST

New Delhi: The 81-year-old Lee Kuan Yew is not known to be diplomatic.
Singapore's Gandhi and Nehru rolled together, Yew has been credited with
transforming the island nation from a vulnerable, resource-constrained
colonial outpost to one of the most advanced nations on the planet in
just around three decades.

For Yew, who shared his insights with an attentive and admiring audience
at an Indo-Singaporean event in the Capital on Wednesday, India is not
quite in the same league as China. He believes China has a considerable
headstart in the development game that is hard for India to overtake or
even match.

"Both can grow... But India's GDP is half that of China's. It's growth
does not exceed that of China's," he said, pointing out various
opinion-makers believe that the two Asian neighbours should not be
clubbed together at all any longer.

He pointed out that China is years ahead of India in terms of
infrastructure. "China has
50,000 km of eight-laned highways, 20,000 km of high-speed trains," he
pointed out, adding that India's lack of connectivity between its cities
and villages is severely hindering the country's development. "Better
transportation can easily add another 2-3% to India's GDP growth," he said.

Having served at the head of Singapore government from 1959 to 1990, Yew
is credited with not only bringing economic development, but also
reducing corruption and forging a truly Singaporean identity.

When asked why he thought South Asia lagged behind East Asia in living
standards and economic development, he pointed to the Confucian culture.
Confucius, a ancient Chinese scholar and philosopher who lived before
the Buddha is known for the hard-nosed practicality of his teachings.
Yew pointed out that Confucian ethos placed as much emphasis on hardwork
as on intelligence and ability.

"There is a great emphasis on drive. You don't get ahead based on brains
alone. You need all three of discipline, persistence and ability...
There is a tremendous faith [in Confucian societies] that through
education and hardwork, you will do better in life... Even the poorest
Chinese make sure their children are educated," he pointed out.

Yew, who is known for his candid and often unflattering appraisal of
Western culture and values, also fielded some questions about the "end"
of the dollar as the world's reserve currency and its status as the
World policeman. He, however, disappointed the enquirer with a quip:
"Imagine the world without a policeman!" Yew, currently serving as
Singapore's 'Minister Mentor' also felt all the hooplah about the demise
of the dollar was misplaced. "What will you replace it with?" he asked,
predicting that it will continue to be the currency of global trade for
"a long time" to come.

Siansian:
China indeed does not need democracy for only as long as the CCP is
doing a good jobs like what they have been doing thus far. CCP must
continue their effort to eliminate corruption by those who corrupt by
abusing the Authority of CCP Governance, otherwise, the wave of
democracy will surely be the next force to overthorw the regimes. CCP
must also continue to address the problem of widening income gaps. I
have strong belief, China will do much better than Singapore,

Obama welcomes 'legendary' Lee Kuan Yew

trulysingapore wrote:

Dear Mr President Obama,

I refer to your recent compliment to our Minister Mentor, Mr Lee Kuan Yew. You said Mr Lee 'helped to trigger the Asian economic miracle.' But just how momentous or important has his 'trigger' been?

The Asian economic miracle began with the miracles of the four East Asian dragons of Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea and Singapore. Since all started industrialisation around the same time, how do we know if it was Singapore that helped 'trigger the Asian miracle' and not Hong Kong, Taiwan or Korea instead?

History has shown that the success behind the Asian miracle rested with export oriented industrialisation. Countries that embarked on import substitution industrialisation failed to prosper. Yet, when Mr Lee first took over the reins of government in 1959, it was precisely the route of import substitution that he took. It was only in 1965 when Singapore was separated from its Malaysian hinterland that import substitution became untenable, forcing Singapore to embark on the route of export oriented industrialisation. So if there had been a 'trigger' for the Asian miracle, it must have been lady luck.

Moreover, Singapore's plans for industrialisation came largely from one man - the Dutch economist Dr Albert Winsemius who was also instrumental in bringing the first multinationals like Shell and Philips onto the shores of Singapore. So if we have to name one person who 'helped trigger the Asian miracle', it would have been Dr Winsemius rather than Mr Lee.

Finally, this 'trigger' is not an Asian secret but an open recipe to all countries around the world. So why didn't the 'trigger' lead to a worldwide 'miracle'? Even in Asia, the 'miracle' didn't spread evenly across the continent. Countries like the Philippines and Indonesia continue to languish behind in progress. So clearly, it takes much more than just 'triggers' for 'miracles' to happen. Therefore it makes little sense to speak of 'triggers for miracles' as though it happens at the snap of our fingers.
