Police must act against Pastor Rony Tan

Subject: Police must act against Pastor Rony Tan

The Lighthouse Evangelism Paster Rony Tan made some disparaging
comment on Buddhism.
This is a breach of the law on Religious Harmony.
The Singapore Police must act. Failure to will demostrate to Singaporeans
that the pap government is controlled by fanatical Christians.
Blood will flow on the streets if the pap government don't move in early to
curb the activities of fanatical Christians who are not tolerant of other
religions.

From: "truth"
Subject: Pastor Rony Tan claimed Buddhism is demonic

Watch the third video.

In this part towards the end, Paster Rony Tan made the
following outrageous and false claims.

1.He claimed that Buddhism is demonic.
2.He rubbished Buddhism concept of reincarnation.
3.He claimed that Buddhism engaged in David Copperfield
trickery.
4. He put false words into the mouth of a dying Buddha.
He claimed that the dying Buddha's last words was "I am still
searching for the way."
5. He then claimed that Jesus appeared and told Buddha that
"I am the way."

This man and people of his kind are very dangerous for peace
and harmony in this world. We must put a stop to these
selfishly destructive people.

There are enough charges to lock him up for his lifetime.
I hope the Singapore Police act fast.

I also hope the Singapore pap government watch this trend of
evangelical Christians falsifying other religious teachings, mocking
and denegrading other religious teachings in order to grow their
memberships.

I forsee plenty of blood on the streets of Singapore if no
actions are taken against this paster Rony Tan and other pasters
who engaged in similar denegrading of other religious teachings.
The government must put a stop to these fanatical religious
extremism in Singapore be it Islam, Christian, Buddhism or any
other religions.

Rony Tan is a demon just like the Muslim
extremists.

What he has done is wrong and very dangerous.
It has the potential to initiate a religious war in
Singapore. It has the potential to destabilise
Singapore.

If the Singapore government can act to detain
suspected Muslim extremists, why is the Singapore
government so reluctant to charge Rony Tan ?
What Rony Tan did can have the same end
results as those suspected Muslim extremists
detained under by the ISD.

ISD calls up pastor for insensitive comments (ST 9 Feb)/Youtube Videos of Saga
Posted by admin 8 February, 2010

THE Government called up a Christian church leader yesterday after receiving complaints about online video clips that show him making insensitive comments about Buddhism.

The Internal Security Department yesterday met Senior Pastor Rony Tan, founder of the Lighthouse Evangelism independent church, and told him that what he did was wrong.

Last night, he posted an apology on the church’s website, promising to respect other faiths and ‘not ridicule them in any way, shape or fashion’.

The video clips, which first appeared on the church’s website two weeks ago, showed Pastor Tan questioning two church members as they recounted their past experiences as Buddhists.

In the exchanges, some of Pastor Tan’s comments -- on Buddhist precepts of rebirth, karma and nirvana -- drew laughter from his audience.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said last night that his comments were ‘highly inappropriate and unacceptable as they trivialised and insulted the beliefs of Buddhists and Taoists’.

It said the ISD told him that in preaching or spreading his faith, ‘he must not run down other religions, and must be mindful of the sensitivities of other religions’.

Singapore’s Maintenance of Religious Harmony Act makes it unlawful for a person to make insensitive comments about other religions.

In his apology last night, the pastor did not refer to being at the ISD. Instead, he said he had received e-mail messages from people who had been ’saddened and hurt’ by what he had said, and realised that his presentation and comments were wrong and offensive.

‘So I sincerely apologise for my insensitivity towards the Buddhists and Taoists, and solemnly promise that it will never happen again,’ he said.

Although the video clips are no longer on the church’s website, netizens have reposted them on other forums.

Two short clips show Pastor Tan asking church member Joseph Wee about the time he was a Buddhist in the 1980s, including a short stint as a monk.

Mr Wee described chanting words he did not understand, and his frustration at not getting answers to his questions about attaining nirvana -- the Buddhist state of enlightenment.

Pastor Tan drew laughter from his audience with his remarks on the chanting, and compared Mr Wee’s effort to seek answers from his mentors as ‘the blind leading the blind’.

In a third video clip, a woman claimed she could recite an ancient Buddhist chant even though she had never heard it. Pastor Tan suggested that the words had been put into her mind by ‘demons’.

The video clips, carrying the church’s ‘Miracle TV’ logo, first appeared on the online forum HardwareZone on Feb 3. By last night, the forum thread had chalked up nearly 1,600 comments and more than 63,000 page views.

On YouTube, the three videos have garnered about 4,000 views each.

Many viewers who left comments felt that Pastor Tan’s comments about Buddhism were insensitive and unfair.

Lighthouse Evangelism has branches in Tampines and Woodlands, and describes itself as a ‘megachurch’. It has more than 12,000 members and is not affiliated with the National Council of Churches of Singapore.

The church was founded in 1978 by Pastor Tan who, in his online autobiography, said he was born into a Taoist family. His son Pacer is the church’s youth pastor, while his daughter Tracy leads the church’s drama ministry.

Buddhist and Taoist groups who had received complaints said last night that while it was good the authorities intervened, more should be done to ensure that such incidents did not recur.

Venerable Kwang Phing, secretary-general of the Singapore Buddhist Federation, said: ‘We put in so much work to maintain religious harmony in Singapore; it takes only one or two persons to jeopardise that process.’

In his apology, Pastor Tan urged netizens who have been circulating the videos to stop doing so.

He said also that he wanted to tell his followers ‘not only to continue to love souls, but also to respect other beliefs and not to ridicule them in any way, shape or fashion’.

He added: ‘Let’s put our goal to build a harmonious Singapore a top priority.’

So your God prefer to kill thousands of Haitians, but save a few rich
and well-to-do Singaporeans.?

Frankie, you are living under a coconut shell.

I tell you the truth. If you drink my sperm you will have long life
and will become a saint in Heaven. Frankie, that 's the kind of
healing power I have that even Rony Asshole Tan (Rat) does not have. I
will do it for you in front of all my Church members - 10,000 of them.

You Lighthouse christians are no different from Saint Osama of the Al
Queda evangelism. He promised his members they will go to heaven and
have 72 virgins waiting for them, should they die in their Jihad.

These videos below would have caused bloodshed and violence in other countries and if the religion is another religion instead of Buddhism, Rony may not be alive today.

The Japanese had always find Chinese hard to trust in business and they have good reasons. Many Chinese even forgot their own roots when come to matter of self-interest and money. Even the gigantic Great Wall cannot defend against the Chinese themselves. That was how the minority Mongols and Manchus conquered China with the Great Wall intact. They just have to exploit the weakness of the Chinese - each for themselves, and only themselves.

  1. No wonder they burn those Churches.
No mercy for them, if this is how Churches scrutinise and deliberately attack and humiliates other religions publicly.

Shameless asshole - Rony Bastard Traitor of the Chinese People Tan.

  2. It is not the religion that is the problem. It is always the people - either its leaders or its followers. I know many Christian friends who just ignore such pastors or priests.

Also, the other problem is people who think all Christians are right wing fundies.

  3. yes i watch the video part 1 and 2. Basically that Joseph used to be temple assistant, not really know fully the Buddism. Becoasue of this, has midlead Rony Tan gave alot of unnecessary conclusion. As a pastor, he should be able to analyse the whold truth, and not only listen to what Joseph shared.
for that, I support police should do something on such Rony Tan comments

  4. why isnt there a fine to him or the church or any disciplinary action held against him? instead only a warning?
Ordinary people expressing religious comments are being slapped with fines or jail terms and yet as a religious leader of sorts was not punished more serverly?

  5. My Dear Rony Tan, deep in my heart I pity you for making yourself a fool but I pity your 12,000 followers (fools) more by believing you with your insensitive speech and teaching. Also, you have unknowingly made our Charitable Mr Khoo look like a fool by donating a hospital where you are able to fool so many people with your miracle healing. If it works, why our government spend so much money into medical? why doctors are still around? Please approach our government by setting up your miracle centre and the government could channel so much money for better use. My dear Christian fellow Singaporean I beg you guys to wake up from your dream. I knew many of you are educated but lack of wisdom. Please do go around to other religion to understand the truth.

I hope the Police investigate in dept and I believed in the past this fool(Rony) might have done more harmful teaching and should teach this fool(Rony) a good lesson with imprisonment to prevent similar incidents in the future. May Peace and Harmony be with us.

  8. I feel this is not the first time Rony Tan has given such remarks about other religions. He is ignorant about other religions but he hopes to entertain his audience. What a pitiful man he is.
The govt. should be fair and not just let him off with a warning , otherwise people will think the Christians in the PAP are protecting him. Luckily for him the Buddhists are so forgiving and compassionate.

May he be well and happy after this ordeal.

  9. Is the Singapore Police having a double standard that gives the Christian a little previledge. Since Rony Tan made a seditious comment on Buddhism, he should be punished and jailed or else our soul and heart will not be appeased.Rony Tan is a bastard that needs to be locked up.

  10. please he has apologised for his mistakes publicly and personally. The rightful spiritual leaders of both Buddhism and Taoism have forgiven him. Lets forgive and move on. Dont try to take this opportunity to push for your personal vengence to hit on christians and Rony Tan just because u have some personal hurt and grieviance with christians.

All religions have their own beliefs, right of opinions and interpretation that may offend the other. Mistakes and offends will come out of this. But the government as regulations and law in place so that no one can cross the border to offend nor create disharmony.

Rony Tan had immediately admitted his mistakes and apologised therefore the government have not taken more actions against him. Should he had been arrogant and defiant then i am sure the government would have acted more seriously and brought him to court.

Lets forgive and move on. Otherwise you will be the one to be called in by the government for stirring up disharmony and causing offence to the christian religion

  11. Feels like the modern day Crusades to me. Even in the long history that preceded us, religions havent always been just a matter of faith but politics as well. In this sense, I salute and equally blame the Buddhists for their passive and peaceful approach: just taking in all the violations to their beliefs.

Salutations because it is the kind of mentality actually nearer to what is propagated as "universal love" than what Christianity and Islam (which is ironically somewhat connected) evangelize, and one of the reasons we can -if its even not a crime to claim- enjoy a certain level of religious harmony today.

Blame because it is also the same approach that made them the easy victim of religious competition. Want another belief to bash to "strengthen"? Use Buddhism and Taoism, because those believers will just "roll over and die" as martyrs. Try to bash Islam, and you'll see more than just blood on the streets as repercussion. Maybe we'll have another 9/11. And in that sense too, all these religious bash-makers are kinda gay and cowardice. If thats what you learn from your religion, its not a criticism of that religion. Its the criticism of your faith.

On a funnier note (not the haha kind of funny), I personally encountered a Catholic priest and a Protestant pastor bashing at each other's religion on 2 different occasions. Same God. How ridiculous is that?

  13. Sadly, for all those die-hard evangelists out there, the only targets they dare to convert are those ex-convicts, ill-stricken poor people and ex-mediums, all from either Buddhist/Hindu or Taoist faiths.

How about going out there and convert some Muslims or post a pastor directly speaking ill of Islam to make believe that one religion is superior to the other?

I guess in the end they had to consider Jihadist and Muslim defenders baying for blood from Indonesia, Malaysia and the heartland itself. After all, Buddhists only had monks in robes asking for alms and chanting scriptures. Whats to fear about that?

    Dear Devotees,

Before I commence of my letter-writing toward. All of you, I would like to inform all of you that I am not satisfy with the lawyer, Dato YIP KUM FOOK due to his bad inspirit impressions because he sent an inspector to come to our Buddhist Temple to arrest me without any good reason, moreover, the lawyer, YIP KUM FOOK is not satisfy with Chief monk.

When the Chief monk had me to go to his Temple already and he went away and left me alone to take care until Chief monk come back to the Temple first and he also told me not to leave the Temple if any committees or the chairman want to chase me out, you don’t leave the Temple at all understand? Then I said, alright? To the chief monk! On the second Day, YIP KUM FOOK came to our Temple and talk to me. He tired to make some inquiry from me and he asked me, where I come from? I told him that I came from Penang.

Then, I told to the lawyer (YIP KUM FOOK) that the chief monk came to Penang and fetch me and invited me to accompany him to go to his temple in K.L. I am not aware that YIP KUM FOOK is not in a good terms with the chief monk, chief monk already in this way, YIP KUM FOOK try to create trouble with me unnecessary. That is why, the lawyer want to chase me out of the Temple. Then I asked the lawyer, why you want to chase me out of the temple? Moreover, the Temple is not belonging to you, UNDERSATAND? Then, I asked him, who are you? I don’t know you at all, you have no right to chase me or control me at all, UNDERSTAND? You are just like a layman only. Do you know the regulations that any the chairman or committee cannot control the monks and the Nuns at all, also UNDERSTAND?

I scolded him like that. Then the lawyer (YIP KUM FOOK) is not satisfy with me and he told me that he will called the police to come to the Temple and arrest me. I told him to go ahead and called the police to come and arrest me. I won’t run away, I said to him like that. I have done nothing wrong toward you, why you want to arrest me? He said, he doesn’t like me to stay here. I asked him, why? Again. After this he got very angry with me, then he phoned up to the police and the police came to the Temple and told me to leave the Temple.

I told to the inspector of the again, 1 am sorry, I won’t leave the Temple because the chief monk had instructed me not to leave the Temple without his consent, UNDERSTAND? Then the inspector told me to leave, again. I told him I cannot leave the Temple because the Chief Monk hasn’t come back yet. This time, the inspector got very angry with me and he took out his handcuff and try to threaten me, then I immediately show off my hands for him to lock me up but he scare, then again, the inspector told me leave the Temple again but I still don’t want to leave the Temple.

Then I phoned up to the chief monk again and I told him that the inspector insisted want to arrest me, you better come back to settle the case for me. After this incident, Chief Monk came back to the Temple and take me to go to another temple and stay their. That’s all about this incidents! Last of all, I would like to inform all of you, that no committees or the chairman can control all the monks and Nuns at all also UNDERSTAND? “They are higher than the King,” also! So how can the laymen, the committees and the chairman to control them: – EVEN THE KING ALSO RESPECTED THE MONKS AND NUNS. Why the chairman doesn’t respect the monks and nuns? They will carry the sins later on, UNDERSTAND?

  15. This pastor really put the lives of Christians in Singapore in danger when what he said leaked out of the congregation and onto the Internet. I mean, Buddhist leaders would rubbish Christianity in the confines of Buddhist temples and gatherings too-- but then, that wouldn't be leaked.

If you look at reliable statistics (from the Statistics Department for instance), you'll find that about half the population in Singapore is Buddhist (even though our flag carries the crescent and the star/s).

I tell you, Christians will be outnumbered just about 5 to 1 if the threat the poster made becomes reality.

But it will be funny. I mean, Christianity and Buddhism are not authentically-Chinese religions, and the Chinese are fighting themselves over it.

Buddhists from India and Christians in the West would be laughing themselves sick.

  16. I think the only religion Chinese in Singapore should adopt is Confucianism, but the barrier to entry is that Confucianists say that Confucianism is only statecraft-- not a form of religion.

You rarely find a statue of Confucius in Taoist temples anyway.

If we follow core Singaporean Confucianist precepts however, we'd be Confucianist.

If we profess some other religion we need not worship Confucius even if we follow these precepts.

But being Confucianist opens yourself to cruel ridicule from young punks who know nothing about Confucianism and attribute quotes from self to Confucius in a silly Chinese accent: 'Confucius say, yaw mader so fat, when she jum her shoe never leeve the ground'.

  17. There is a Buddhist who is a Christian who studied the Bible so religiously that he quoted a verse from it to an evangelical, asking her to take poison since Jesus would come and save her.

I can't quote the verse now because I'm not familiar with it.

But I know that Buddha said that there was no God.

I think Buddha got sacrificed by his first followers.

Buddha was not like Jesus in that he said that there was no God, and was made God, while Jesus told everyone he knew that he was the Son of God, that he would save them; and that he would die for the sins of the world.

So it's easy for authentic Christians to believe that Buddhists worship Buddha because he could save them, and Buddhists that Christians worship Jesus only because he did not say he could save them, that he could not save them.

  18. There is no man like Jesus, except, perhaps, for Hong Xiuquan and David Koresh, leader of the Branch Davidians. And perhaps the two did not say that they would die for our sins- not the latter certainly, because his behaviour was highly-suspect in a modern world.

Xiuquan was perhaps only more Christian than most Christians, but he did not have concubines after China deposed herself of her emperor, and became a republic.

I'm told that Dalai Lamas encased themselves; have boiling gold be poured over them in the death ritual; and that is great, except that by then they would already be at a ripe old age, or be nearing death. Jesus was killed (even if he did say that he would die for the sins of the world). Stigmata; weeping and sweating blood did not kill him-- he was killed by ancient Roman soldiers. Caesar's was a quick death, and he wasn't very young by then to realise fully the pain of knives at 33, and on top of that, his death was glorious in the days after. As for Jesus, it took years for people to accept that he rose from the dead and ascended to heaven, having died for us.

  19. To the person who commented on Mar 7, 2010:

I can see where you're coming from, because today Taoism and Buddhism in many places go hand in hand, just like how Japanese folk religion can go hand in hand with Buddhism.

But before that, like in China, Buddhists have been persecuted, even massacred, for being Buddhists, by, well, believers in Chinese folk religion, a more ancient form of Taoism.

Schisms in the Church have not come without bloodshed too-- and that's an understatement. Untold numbers have died for being Christian, killed by 'Christians' for practising a form of Christianity deemed demonic, if you're wondering why Catholics and Protestants can be at each other's throats.

Sein Fein for instance recently had a very active IRA who liked to plant nail bombs in English restaurants, England being well-known as home to the Church of England; the most well-known face of Protestantism-- as near back as in the 1980s, that was exactly what they were doing.

  20. England has had the Irish Catholic, Muslim extremist and recently, the English youth threat. Did you hear that Prince Charles was on his way to dinner when a group of young thugs did damage to his car, with him, heir to the throne, in it?

Churchill was also taken down by the same crowd. I'm worried the English will start taking over the world again with them around.

The thing to watch is if Buckingham Palace will hand out free tours to non-Commonwealth countries to English youth.
